Well, last night my lessons were upgraded to DAS, and I had my first ride of a 500 !
I was ABSOLUTELY bricking it ! Confused

I thought...oh well..get used to bike...sit on it...potter on playground stuff for an hour...
FOUR MINUTES PRACTICE I had ! lol Laughing
Then he took me on-road Shocked

I must say, from the minute I got on the bike it all felt comfortable, natural and ..well..easy...
just like the 125, but heavier...
I don't know what I was so worried about....

Got up to 60 on the roads....found slow riding easier....acceleration faster...but not deadly so...
loved the feeling of that power between my legs...so much rumble Laughing Thumbs Up
And those tyres......oooooooooooo.....chubby Surprised

Can't wait to pass my test....my theory is the 1st week of October...and then my test soon after hopefully....

I am hoping to sell the CG for somewhere in the region of £1,600.....then whack a little more to that (maybe have £2K) to buy a second-hand 500/600....
maybe a Honda CB.....
I want something blue and white with a bit of fairing me thinks....

A Honda CB500... maybe a Kawasaki ER-5... or there's the Suzuki GS500.

The CB and the GS you can get with a small fairing... the ER-5.... I don't think there was a faired version.

The GPZ 500 might also be worth a look.

Of course... you can always get an aftermarket fairing... if you happen to buy the naked version of any of the above.

Don't think any of them come in blue and white... a later GS will... but not any of the ones you could afford for £2k I don't think...

CB500s are cool. Major_Grooves has one. I've never ridden it, it’s an inline twin, so it has torque. Looks nice, and very reliable. I'd say it would be great to learn on and ride around for a few months afterwards. And you can get a really decent one for £1000 (or less). Dance!

Thats what i'd get for a 500cc.

And apparently they are pretty good for stunting, if you feel like it. Laughing

Plus its Honda so you stay in the family. Smile

Congratulations on your first 500 ride Surprised

MCN for sale bit currently has a number of blue CB500S in the price range £2300 tp £2700, so worth a look when you're ready as they're out there - check link here. Plenty of blue Suzuki GS500s, but no fairing on older models Sad - link.

Hehe, get an older cb500 with no fairing, looks much nicer, and so much cheaper. Spend little on a first bike. The less fairing the better: less to pay when you drop it. Older ones, ie around 95 you can get for around £1000, maybe less, maybe more. They are very reliable and will last.

Are you planning on keeping your first bike for a long time?

Yeah, I think the schools training peeps for CBT should put more emphasis on the fact 125s or small bikes are generally harder to ride. I've seen a fair few on here who hated their 125cc experience and dreaded the larger bikes Very Happy

I found the 500CC CG to be an excellent ride compared to the 125 I'd been training on.

...I think so claud...mainly due to finances...I say a long time...probably about 1 and a half to 2 years....

I have seen loads of bargain blue and white 500/600's about....I have been looking at ebay..that may be somewhere to consider.

I like 600 Bandits, and the CB500. Both will last and are good. See what other can suggest, also.

Jodie, have a look at my 500 FAQ located here https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=30880

I can highly recommend both the GS500 and the GPZ500, both decent little bikes, which are cheap to run, and easy to ride.

Since getting the GPZ I actually now prefer it to the GS, it has a fun factor about it, you can be a total loon on it if you keep it on the boil above 7k and you can pootle about too.

GPZ Thumbs Up
