Regular London riders - parking advice please.

Hi guys,

I may be taking a job at the Science Museum which is in Westminster and so charges for parking, anybody know the nearest place I can park for free? Paying for parking takes enough of a chunk out of the wages to make it not worth it.

Last time I worked at that museum there were bike parking ranks there, but it was a long time ago and they have done a lot of work there since.

Otherwise, have a look behind Brompton Oratory, there's a cheap car park there next to Holy Trinity Brompton that might let you park a bike for free.

£3.50 for a week in the ranks mate, pity your not a bit closer, could of parked at my work for free but its about 25min walk away.

Parking there is gonna be a fight for the limited spaces available. Sweet if you can blag a corner of the car park at Museum Lane, but I bet it’s only for deliveries and directors.

Like Pete said there used to be loads of bike parking down the middle of Exhibition Road, but the recent tarting up has removed them.

Thanks for all the advice, the link in the site above showed up some parking right in walking distance so I'll give that a go, I reckon it will be rammed.

I'll have to leave an hour early the first few times to be sure.

Plenty of free parking in Kens and Chels, but be careful when you park on the street bays, cos some of them are "residents only" and some are free for anybody.

If not, try riding through the Imperial College campus car parks on a regular basis, and waving to the security guards there. Once they recognise you often enough, they will think you are a student or staff, and probably won't question when you park your bike up there.

I can park on the Royal Brompton bike parking areas (increasingly fuller than they EVER were three years ago when I started!) - all I had to do was register my bike registration with the security office. Chances are the Science Museum have a similar arrangement for staff, or at least, some kind of parking.

But I prefer to park on the street, cos its closer to my office. Bloody RBKC recently put ground anchors into the bay I regularly use, which nobody wanted and now one or two twats (on peds) have left their chains attached to the anchors. I hope they like it when the rest of us just park over the top of them. Fucking things, we lost about four spaces just from the council putting anchors in.

I pay £100 for a yearly ticket in Westminster - assuming 260 working days a year it only works out at 38p a day.

Now I think of it, t'missus challenged a K&C residents only bay on the basis of defective signage, and I don't think they've changed them - free parking all round, if you don't mind sticking a challenge in every day until they get sick of it.

Something to do with the layout on the plates - the dividing line means that technically the time restrictions don't apply to the instruction (or something like that, I'll have to dig out the challenge).

Why not just park in the fucking huge car park between the Science Museum and Imperial College?
Even if there are no spaces security don't usually mind you parking bikes on the pavement.

I work in a hospital in London and all the hospital sites that I know of offer free motorbike parking as long as you aren't in a car pay and display bay. If pushed you could always park in one near you, just look for the other bikes/scooters dotted about in odd places on the hospital campus.
