And this is why

https://i41.tinypic.com/ogvozc.jpg

I went to the end of my road today to find out what made my wheels slip so badly lastnight, and found a 20 meter long patch of what looks like diesel.
I was going so slowly and almost lost it at the junction with oncoming traffic. So happy that i kept the bike up and didn't fall into the traffic.

Have to be so cautious of these damn patches of diesel. Sad

You need to notify the police or council (they'll point you in the right direction) as that's a major hazard and they should clear it up as soon as they can.

yeah good idea, i will call the council right away.
There's a fair few bikers around my area, so having it cleared up will help many.

Edit: just called my local council and told them the situation,
They are sending the street cleansing team out right away to have it cleared up.

Good man, Karma for you. They're clearing it up because now that they've been told about it, the clock is ticking on when they become reasonably liable. Thumbs Up

If in doubt ring the fire service is what I was told. A few weeks back a number of cars were going sideways through one particular corner on a nation speed limit bypass near me. My stepdad phoned his mate who was a fireman to ask who to notify and he / we were told to phone 999 and report it to the fire service as it's a busy road.

A few years ago I was riding in to work first thing in the morning when I saw a bus going around a corner with diesel puking out of the filler cap.I noted the registration and route number of the bus and rode straight to the nearest plod station. When I got to the front desk I said that I wanted to report a dangerous diesel spillage.Stupid fat git plod asked me what was expected of him. With what he said I hit the roof and demanded to see his superior and wanted stupid fat plod to be told off for dereliction of duty.Stupid fat plod tried to say something in his defence when another plod with two pips on his shoulder appeared, but I advised stupid fat plod to shut up as his further input was not required.I then advised two pip plod of the situation and he promised that something would be done.

By the time I went past on the way home there was sand all over the spillage and signs advising of a slippery road surface, which was what I suggested to two pip plod.

Whatever happens, report it to the emergency services as soon as you experience anything like this.

If you actually think that's a good solution then you're mental. Sand is worse than the diesel.

It should be jet-washed.

I always ring the council/highways agency (council for local roads, highways agency for motorways) for anything more than a drip sized patch. I honestly don't know how some of them manage it though, where I park at work is immediately next to a bus station and they piss the stuff out. You'd think stagecoach would clock onto it and sort them out, must cost a fortunate.

They use sand and cement dust on race tracks to clear oil spillages. Cat litter is best though (fullers earth).

Looks hiddious!
Ive never had an encounter with Diesel before untill i hit a small roundbout this summer. Looked like, what ever was leaking went around the roundabout a dozen times.
Thankfully cagers could see I was having difficulty going around (feet down and crawling along) that they gave me space!

Pretty sure an over filled tank & spilling diesel is an offence.

That looks savage.

Something similar caused me to come off last night at <10. Wet leaves Neutral I was filtering and lightly on the brake and there was a massive pile of them. Ended up swimming in them.

My lever snapped and my fuel tank cover thing snapped off. Was supposed to be selling it this week Sad

I noticed a crap load of diesel the other day - right along the curb for miles. I can only suspect it was the street sweeper. Quite ironic when it's supposed to be cleaning the roads, not making them worse.

More likely a lorry because their tanks are on the side and if they leak out the cap or somewhere, it will come out on the edge. You can tell if it is leaking from the cap because the spills get bigger on corners.

Ive notice that rainbow effect for about 3 miles in the centre of main road on the morning after it had rained heavily. It was only faint, is this normal or an area to avoid? It wasnt anywhere near as noticeable as that though

avoid if possible.

you should have been told as far back as your cbt about the rainbow effect and it should be avoided where possible. water + oil = bad

if you have to go over it stay as upright as possible and avoid any sharp movements/braking.

buses go back to the garage each night and fill up ready for the morning, usually some foreigner!!!!!then they fly out the garage and dump it on the road very early the next morning less about!!!...there is a device they can buy that prevents spillage and over fill but theyd sooner ditch a biker and not pay for it...take pics and summons!!!!
