I never really drank tea until I moved in with my friends 6 weeks ago, now suddenly I'm drinking 3 to 5 cups a day!
So far I haven't tried many, but Twinings Earl Grey is very nice, 2 sugars no milk.

What's your favourite and what could you recommend that would be in the same ballpark as EG?

Not much else is like Earl Grey because it has bergomot oil in it. There is Lady Grey which is a lighter version of the same.

If you like the aromatic type of tea, you could try Chai. It's kind of spiced stuff that hippies drink a lot with honey in.

I try a lot of different teas but keep going back to PG tips.

I like ordinary tea, Earl Grey, and I particularly like Yogi Aztec Choco Spice, Yogi Mayan Spice, and Nettle & Dandelion herbal teas.

Was looking at that Chai Tea in the shop the other day, might have to give it a try next time I run out.
I'm happy I like it though cause I used to drink up to 2 litres of coca cola a day; surely tea is a LOT healthier.
Also boils down to the fact that I'm broke as fook at the moment and can't afford to be spending money on shite

My everyday favourite is Tetley extra strong with 5 sugars (I have a pint mug!) and a good splash of milk.

Overall my favourite is Georgian Old Gentleman.

Try gradually reducing the sugar, it really masks the taste of tea (and coffee) If you have milk in it there's a touch of sweetness from that anyway.

Another vote for Chai... The Hindu society at uni was doing a fund raiser the other day, a cup of Chai and a samosa for £1.50. Everything was prepared from traditional recipes and it was so tasty I had to go back for seconds of both!

As for my everyday cuppa... Co-op's 99 blend tea is our staple. If we can't get to co-op, we either go for twinings everyday (quite fresh and almost citrusy) or yorkshire/yorkshire gold.

I used to drink a lot of loose leaf tea when I lived close to a specialist tea shop... A proper brew of Assam (a rich, malty full flavoured tea) first thing in the morning certainly gets you in the mood to take on the day. Tried assam in tea bags, but it just didn't taste the same. On the odd occasion I would pass a Whittards, I used to buy some of their "Afternoon tea", which contained jasmine flowers and other stuff. It was a very delicate aromatic tea that went perfect with a slice of cake in the mid-afternoon.

Word of warning though, I like aromatic teas, but I tried lapsang souchong once and only once. It tasted like a was drinking hot water through the ashes of a bonfire. Not a pleasant cuppa at all!

If you want to learn more about tea... How to make it, serve it, drink it, eat with it etc, you cannot beat the immortal words of "Nicey and Wifey" over at "Nice cup of tea and a sit down". The book is essential reading for serious tea drinkers too! Clicky

Earl Gray probably my favourite as a "treat"
Assam occasionally, although it's a little too weak for me.
But I usually go back to Typhoo/PG Tips/Glengettie - just a little milk, and no sugar.

Probably drink more coffee than anything - good quality instant, or preferably beans or ground in a cafetiere

When I was younger, I had two sugars in coffee, and one in tea... bit I now have no sugar in tea or coffee, cos I've found that it masks the genuine flavour of the drink

As a student there was a box of Earl Grey in the shared kitchen that nobody wanted to touch, but being lazy students none of us could be bothered to actually go and buy anything else. Eventually we were forced to drink it and since that point Earl Grey has always tasted just like normal tea for me and regular tea tastes really bland! I guess its like being used to having sugar in tea and then it just tastes wrong without (I don't have sugar in tea) but I do have milk in my Earl Grey. I agree that Twinings is definitely the best tasting Earl Grey in the UK.. but it is a different blend over here in NZ and is as weak as dishwater, so I have gotten in a local brand called T-Leaf-T! (Proper tea leaf tea tastes so much nicer than tea bags!) But my Mum sends me boxes of UK Twinings in the post!! Smile As well as Double Deckers! Thanks Mum! Smile

Yorkshire Tea for Hard Water, a little milk. Apparently they are the only company that makes a special blend for hard water areas. Not sure if it makes a difference, but it is very nice.

I drink this green powdered Korean stuff, it is hyper addictive and contains insane amounts of um stimulants.

Lastly, tea — unless one is drinking it in the Russian style — should be drunk without sugar. I know very well that I am in a minority here. But still, how can you call yourself a true tea-lover if you destroy the flavour of your tea by putting sugar in it? It would be equally reasonable to put in pepper or salt.

Tea is meant to be bitter, just as beer is meant to be bitter. If you sweeten it, you are no longer tasting the tea, you are merely tasting the sugar; you could make a very similar drink by dissolving sugar in plain hot water.

Some people would answer that they don't like tea in itself, that they only drink it in order to be warmed and stimulated, and they need sugar to take the taste away. To those misguided people I would say: Try drinking tea without sugar for, say, a fortnight and it is very unlikely that you will ever want to ruin your tea by sweetening it again.
