I am a student designing bike helmets and I need any helmets to mess around with at the moment doesn't really matter about condition etc or style.

I will pay for postage, has any one got any that can't be used anymore?
And any ideas for the sort of designs you would like to see on either buffs (silk and jersey) which can be digitally printed and also helmets
They are for sculptures so they can be scratched etc
Thank you for any advice!
Oh and what would be great is one place to get a bunch...if that exists a training centre or something

I'll give you a free helmet if you give me some free cash. Thumbs Up

Plenty of very cheap old lids on ebay:

I could bid on cheap ones on ebay just seems there are a lot of people looking for places to recycle helmets they can't use or don't want to keep anymore

Obviously the ambulance service use them for a good cause just seems like there are an awful lot of people asking where to take them and I would like just 5 for my final show

It would be helpful if you mentioned where you are - I'd venture you're more likely to get one that someone doesn't have to post.

Are there?

I don't think I've seen a single 'where can I recycle my helmet' thread on here.

Most people just cut the straps off and chuck them in the bin.

Thumbs Up

What is with the rash of 'I'm a student I'm gonna spam a forum to do all the hard work on my dissertation' threads we've had on here recently ?

Its starting to get on my bristols...

'Hi this is my first post. I want you to do something for free that will help me. As soon as I've got what I want, I'm gonna fuck off and not be heard of again. You will get nothing from the transaction'.....

At least show us a pic of your tits or summat in payment...

I'm currently doing a dissertation, it hasn't entered my head to bother the good people on here, and I've been round for a while.

I gave mine to a paramedic for training courses, I've heard the fire service will take them as well.

I was apprehensive about posting on a forum because I'd been warned about negative responses. I find that particular message quite frustrating. And I don't particularly understand fully how forums work as I have avoided them in the past for said reason.

I am working on this project (which is a collaboration with another female biker who currently builds custom cars) because I have been riding bikes for a while now and I am frustrated with the lack of well designed, contemporary helmets for either sex.

I have already contacted training centres, freecycle groups, 40 or so bikers that I have met in recent years. I really am not being lazy, I have made casts from a helmet I owned and this may have to do for prototypes.

I am writing this after speaking to a lot of unhelpful people this week so I apologise if it doesn't read well. I understand you can't help.

Not only that, but...

Since when does a dissertation involve 'messing around' with some old crash helmets? Or indeed any of the other complete waste of time projects we've been asked about recently.

A dissertation should involve drowning in books and articles with the aim of carrying out some form of meaningful, purposeful and robust research. The output of that should have something definitive (and ideally new) to say about whatever question or challenge it is that's being addressed.

"Can I have some of your helmets to mess around with?" "Has anyone got any good design ideas?"

These are not promising questions.

No wonder the economy's f*cked.

p.s. Aesthetic choice (within regulatory bounds) is most certainly not lacking in the helmet market.

Fair enough, I can vaguely see your point, but doing research these days seems to consist of logging on to a forum, asking for help and then buggering off.

I see a forum (at least to regular users) as like a community (a pub for example). There are people I find funny and naturally gravitate to, some hotties, some divvies, the landlord (Korn), the old guys who always have a great story to tell etc.

People like you are the equivalent of someone coming and begging a pint before buggering off never to be seen again. Once or twice this is fine, but when it keeps on going it gets to be a trifle annoying.

If you have an interest in bikes, then try getting to know the community, maybe even join in a few threads before asking for favours.

Hon, trust me, you really don't want to know about my dissertation

At least this is asking for something fairly unique as such and it seems she has actually tried.
For the OP, afraid this is far from the ah, most tolerant of forums, but that also means that often less bs is tolerated too, which is nice.

It is actually quite hard to give helmets away (the fire service for instance only very rarely needs one and they generally go for a large size as a catch-all) and being a hoarder I've got a few old ones.

So might actually be able to help out Thumbs Up. Will have a look around tomorrow and see what I've got.

Asking for ideas for your project; maybe more of the typical student coming on here, though!

I've got an old helmet, slightly scratched during a low speed spill.
Fire or ambulance service I was thinking of or even the Air Ambulance service but haven't got around to donating yet.
I think It's still safe to wear & use but as with any safety doubts I'm erring on caution.
If you pay post costs you can have it.
PM me if you want it.
