 |
|
Before anyone pipes up, i'm aware there is no single "cheapest" to insure car, as the premiums offered depend on far too many factors.
Basically, situation is that i may require a car for work use soon. I will need it to be as cheap as possible as it'll be just to tick a box with my employer to land me the right job (i'm more likely to stick a big box on the back of the bike in reality, but i'm not going to tell them that )
Insurance is what's going to cost the earth for me (i've been running quotes on random crap cars), as despite my incoming 4th year NCB for bike insurance, i'll have diddly-squat car NCB and will have only just taken my car licence, so will be treated as a new driver and bummed accordingly (4 figures).
I was hoping for suggestions of cars that really are generally the cheapest to insure. I'm perfectly willing to have something unusual (i am aware of the theory that some of the less obvious choices may be cheaper because the average driver of them don't tend to be new enough at driving to crash). ____________________ -- Ingah |

I'd guess one of the basic model hatchbacks, Ford Fiesta / Vauxhall Corsa etc would be the obvious choices ____________________ 1st bike (Sept'06 - May'10) : 1991 GPZ500S / Current bike (since Nov 2009) : 2003 Suzuki Bandit 600N

Depending how old you want to go:
Rover Metro/100/City Rover - Dirt cheap to get hold of, so basic a child could fix them. (I did!)

I would say something like a Daewoo Matiz.
800cc engine
Not on the 'hot hatch' list.
Not desirable.
Dirt cheap to buy.
Something else to think about....
If the average 'cheap' car insurance (as stated above) really is £1400 - £1600 per year then it may be just as economical to buy a brand new car. Peugeot were doing a deal a little while ago. Not sure if it still is. I think it was the 'just add fuel' one with the jigsaw piece over the petrol cap in the tv advert.
My step daughter has a 1100cc Pug and the servicing, tyres and tax etc is all paid up by Peugeot including insurance and she pays around £213 a month.
I appreciate that seems dear but no road tax, no tyres and no insurance to pay. I think her quotes for that vehicle were around £1300 for the year which is £130 a month over a twelve month policy (payable in ten obviously). They also gave her £1000 back on her knackered 306. ____________________ Check out our tackle shop on Facebook:
