cleaning reccomendations

I want to clean my CG so its absolutely gleaming, ive been using polish and warm water so far, but was wondering if theres much I can use to make it look much better, I could take a trip to halfords to get anything I need so, what can I use to make the bike gleam..thanks.

try using wd-40 on the wheels. let it sit there for a minute ,then rub of with a cloth. the grime will come off instantly, with ease Laughing

GUNK - engine degreaser, nasty stuff but will clean off any filth on the engine caseings... will do a great job on the wheel spokes as well - BUT IT EATS RUBBER SO BE VERY CAREFULL WHERE YOUR USEING IT -

WD40 - Great stuff for cleaning and protecting engine caseings exhaust e.t.c. it wont be sparkleing but it will resist any dirt/salt in winter, do not let it near your brakes! chain wax will also keep any important bits protected (not least your chain!)

AutoSol - Best polish iv'e tryed, exhuast, downpipes, wheel spokes anything shiney, hard work as any is but worth the effort!

As for your paintwork, any car polish should do the job i reckon...

okay, i'll look out for it, as my bike is naked and the engine is exposed, is there anyway i can clean the engine, it always seems dull and a drab colour, I know its meant to but is there anything anyone uses to make it look better?

I agree with laura, Auto Glym is really good stuff it shifts anything from chain lube to bugs and doesn't attack paintwork.

Crystal Glo - The best polish I've used.

Be careful with Autosol, it can be quite abrasive especially on something that's not a true metal. It is good stuff though.

GT85 is good too, it's similar to WD40. It contains Teflon so it helps keep the dirt off and is water resistant. You can get it from the Halfords cycle section.

I've always used Car Shampoo to clean the bike, then leathered it off to remove excess water.

I then let it dry fully and then either use Holts Motorcycle Wax Polish or AutoGlym, both give paint work a nice shine and protect it.

I also use WD40 to clean wheels and stuff and then get chrome polish and give the exposd chrome parts a good clean, sometimes I use WD40 to get crap off the downpipes and engine too but don't forget to let it evaporate and dry off before starting the engine.

I use auto gleam motorcycle cleaner. Holts motocycle de-greaser to remove the crap that comes off my chain. WD-40 on a cloth to clean and protect my wheels. I've also recently used peek liquid on j-cloths to clean my downpipes.
I try to take the worst muck off once a week, compleatly clean and lube the chain every 4 weeks, And give the bike a realy good all over clean when ever I feel like it and have time.

No i'm not mad but my most important cleaning products are

1. Mr Sheen
2. Johnsons Baby wipes
3. WD40

Mr Sheen best polish in my opinion used by a lot of showrooms as it leaves no residue or dust.

Baby wipes on palstics and chrome and anything that needs cleaning. Really good at removing bug guts. Just wipe on and then off with tissue.

WD40 for the tar and chain wax removal.

Don't use Autosol on chrome as its abrasive and strips it off! Pink Windolene is the best stuff for chrome.

Ok my cleaning regime - first soapy water and sponge to get the main dirt and bugs off, then where it is particularly bad (ie the wheels) spray with mr muscle kitchen cleaner and use a soft brush (dustpan and brush type brush) to clean up said areas.

Then hose down and dry with sort cloth, then polish body work with Mr Sheen (I personally use vanilla scented but that is just cos thats what I use in the house - original is fine!)

Then using a very fine polish such as safe cut I give the exhaust and any other "should be shiney" area a quick going over.

Final result a very clean shiney bike that looks lovely!

I squirt most of the bike down with Muc-Off, then use a Jay cloth or a sponge and a bucket of hot water and wash everything down. I use Scottoiler FS365 spray to give everything bar the brakes a protective coating. Then I use brake cleaner on the discs and pads. When I remember I use Autosol on polished metal bits.
