hey guys.

Just stripped down and replaced the seals on my front brake caliper and then installed new pads and now iv noticed a very slight binding. If you spin the wheel it stops a lot faster then it used to like the pad is rubbing slightly.

I'v ridden the bike for about 30miles since installing the new pads/servicing the caliper and it still seems pretty much the same. I haven't noticed it effecting my speed or the way my bike pulls me and the disc is not getting hot (gets slightly warm) after riding it.

I'm guessing they need to "bedding in"? Last time I changed my pads I never bothered trying to spin the wheel afterwards so I don't really know if this is normal.

many thanks guys for your replied in advance

Thought I'd post a reply myself as I fixed the problem just in case anyone else has the same thing. I took the caliper off again and pumped the pistons out and pushed them back in a few times allowing the pistons to lube up a bit better.

Now the wheel spins much more freely. (please note you will always hear a slight rubbing noise of the disc as there is always slight contact on the pads)

Remember when changing pads, you should always be able to push back the piston/s with ease. If not you may need new caliper seals and a good clean.

i had the same problem with my CRF450 but i found out the hard way by using it on the motocross track before testing them. my pistons wouldnt go in with ease but thort is was normal due to them having to be tight.

Not at all mate, them pistons need to go in nice and smoothly. You will always be able to put them back with a lot of force but if it is not smooth then the piston will just get stuck and then you are in the shit.....

also using brake pad grease is a must, makes everything so much easier!! Helps protect the new seals as well!
