 |
|
yep, still doin my little old AR50 up... right little motorbike its turning out to be.. the custom fairing i got made for it kinda shattered , so thats off 120 quid down the drain
anyway... anyone know where to get some cheep wheels from? (smaller than th AR's origional wheels) as the origional wheels look too big, plus id like some fatter tyres, whats the kinda limits for rim/tyre thickness?
at the moment im not sure what size wheels i got, but i got a 3.25 inch tyre on the back, and a 2.75 tyre on the front... on the honda nsr 50, the wheels looks pretty damn fat, those would be perfect... anyone got any guesses as if they would go on without much tampering? and where to get a decent 2nd hand pair?
thanks in advance |

Changing over wheels is a pain in the backside and expensive unless you are, or are on good terms with a competant machinist.
You will probably need to have new spacers made to get the wheel in the middle. You will also mast likely need a plate making to move the brake calliper to engage with the disc. It is unlikely you will be able to retain the speedo drive.
I recently fitted a different set of wheels in my KLE500. I was using wheels from the same maufacturer and it was still an extensive task that with hindsight, I would never have started (although I am happy with the result).
The wheels and tyres on your bike have been selected by the manufacturer as the best size to use in that chassis, chances are that messing with this will have a negative effect on the handling. Narrower tyres corner faster.
EDIT: Also remember that fitting smaller wheels will reduce the already very little ground clearance on your bike. You may well find that it scrapes its arse along the ground round every corner. It probably wont sit on the sidestand either. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
I did the 2010 Round Britain Rally on my 350 Bullet. 89 landmarks, 3 months, 9,500 miles. |
