tl;dr Painless spot/boil on gum above tooth about a month after toothache. I'm skint so don't want to go to the Dentist unless necessary, will it go away on its own?
I'm normally the first to think WTF? when I see posts entitled "I've chopped my arm off. Should I go to the hospital or ask for advice on a bike forum?" and similar, but bear with me please
I had a horrendous tooth/mouth ache about a month ago lasting a few days, which I thought I'd dealt with by MTFU'ing (read, being skint) and swishing around near boiling salt water a few times a day and cracking on with prescription painkillers that were stashed away for a rainy day.
The ache originated from just above my top front tooth in the gum. This tooth and the other front one had crowns fitted to them in June. However the pain stopped, and while the tooth sometimes feels a little "numb" since then there have been no issues.
A few days ago, I noticed what seemed to be a little "boil" in the gum above this tooth. It will move about if I push it, and when pushed it feels like I've got a slight bruise there though it gives me no discomfort otherwise. It also disappears twice a day after brushing my teeth so I'm guessing I' taking the top off it and allowing it to drain
So, is this likely to be just the back end of whatever infection I had and will bugger off soon; or is it a warning sign of more troubles to come?
If money was no object I'd get down to the dentists tomorrow to get them to have a poke at it, but I'm reluctant in my current financial state to spend £17 ish on just the examination if it's something that will disappear on its own, especially having spent a shade over £300 get the crowns fitted recently (thought it should have been £204 but that's a thread for another day).
With the limited information that text can provide, is a visit to the dentist needed? Many thanks in advance for suggestions ____________________ Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.

Meh...I probably shouldn't be self diagnosing on the internet as this site and google adventures are starting to scare the poop out of me
I've had crowns on my two front teeth for close to 15 years after smashing the originals out in separate stupid accidents. Both crowns went within about six months of each other, I'm guessing through wear and tear and natural life of them, and so after close to a year of saving I got the new one's done in June. And now this nonsense six months later....
Don't really feel comfortable with my current dentist; gonna go see the one on the university campus tomorrow for a chat ____________________ Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.

A conclusion for the uninterested. Saw my usual dentist today, who was a lot better than the last time I saw him (he may have been having an off week last time - we all get them I guess).
Root canal needed - congrats Joe - but the good news is he reckons he can do it through the crown. Marvellous. So £50 lighter but a lot better than expected. Bad news is that because I'm allergic to penycillin I have to take a different kind of antibiotic over next week that apparently interacts horrendously with booze.

Probably will be metrozidinole, that's what I had last time because I'm Also allergic to penicillin. Glad you only need a root canal, I have another 4 teeth being removed next month. ____________________ Cbr1100xx blackbird gone, mk4 golf gt tdi chav now
