| dannyboy2 wrote: | Hi I'm new and posting mainly as I wonder if anyone has experienced a similar situation.
I commute to work (in a college ) everyday on my 98 Hornet!
There is a staff car park with a small motorbike parking spot (busy in the summer, less so in winter)
There are barriers to the entry and exit of the carpark and you need to swipe a card to raise them. There are also gaps next top the barrier just right for motorbikes!
The gap by the entrance is always blocked by a car parked in a spot but so I always ride to the exit barrier and enter the carpark via the gap next to that.
It saves stopping, taking my gloves off, removing a pass from my pocket, buzzing, returning the pass to my pocket, putting my gloves back on and entering the carpark before the barrier comes down.
I've done this for 3 years but yesterday the facilities team taped off the gap i normally use, prob because there is a one way system which i do normally follow. it could be a health and safety thing.
Do other bikers think i'm being a Kn~b for not using the barrier card system? Does anyone have a similar system at their work?
Are those gaps in the carpark made so bikers can get through easily and safely? I cant think of anyother reason for them,i dont think their designed/suitable for wheelchair access.
all replies/comment appreciated. you can say if you think i'm being unreasonable or selfish! |
I tend to treat short barriers as motorcycle friendly, is there one of the security bods you can ask?
Alternatively, have your card somewhere easy to get at. If it is just a swipe it past a magnet thing then tape it to your forearm. If it needs to physically go through a reader then perhaps hole punch a bit without the black strip and stick it on a keyring? |

Have you considered having the chip or magnet implanted in your hand so you could just swipe it as you pull up
There's a bloke on the Max Suzuki Bandit forum that's had a RFID chip surgically implanted in the back of his hand so he could activate his keyless ignition .

edit...just realised you have to be a member to view, he also posted on YouTube, did it for his R6 and was going to have another for his Bandit

Haha yeah, it was suggested to my colleague who I was having a moan to!!!!
Thanks for the replies folks, i spoke with a security guard who is also a biker and he suggested to just press a button and speak to security via a speaker, they'll open it remotely...eventually!!!! I asked wouldnt that bother them but he replied "nah, theres nothing else to do"! |

Personally I swipe my card on the way in and out.
How hard is it to get your pass out and swipe. Mine sits in my pocket and gets pulled out just before barrier and after clearing shoved into a plastic pouch behine screen. Or if you don't have a screen, simply sit on it.
I look on that as a security measure. Should anyone attempt to ride out on my bike without swiping a card. then it gets reported straight away. ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

For school I just keep mine in my wallet. Don't need my gloves off to get my wallet out of my pocket so it is unzip pocket, put wallet to reader, stick wallet back in pocket then ride up the road and park. I dont zip it up as I get off literally 20m up the road and get changed anyway. Takes 2 secs!

You're not a knob. Our gate is at the top of a moderately steep slope and is ten feet high so it's impossible to get past unless you can fly.
The only good side is there's a keypad that also accepts passes, so if you know the code (everyone does) we just punch that in and it opens. Still a pain. ____________________ Previous: 2002 Honda CB500 (sold), 2007 Suzuki SV650SK6 (crashed), 2005 Yamaha FZ6 Fazer (sold). Currently bikeless
