Hello all, just looking for some advice on getting fit/losing a bit of weight.
Currently I weigh around 15 stone, 36 waist, 6'1
I want to get fit, and lose the spare tyre I seem to be growing.
Now, obviously the ideal situation is to eat less and exercise more, which is what I plan to do (and have started the last week or so) but I want to know people on here's thinking about the best ways to go about exercise. I currently do about 40 minutes on a rowing machine on medium resistance three times a week. Going to a gym is not really an option as it would be sporadic and irregular due to breakfast through to all evening shift pattern. (I've been told it's better to go around the same time each time?) I've no aversion to running or swimming. I fucking hate cycling though.
Oh, and I eat irregularly due to above shift patterns and working in kitchens.

Start running, I lost 3 and a half stone this year because of an improved diet combined with going for a run every evening. Started off small but now I can run 4 - 5 miles easily, though I usually just do 2 miles a day unless feeling energetic
I was at 17 stone in February, now I am 13 and a half..want to get to 13
The improved diet consisted of...
Grapefruit, Apple and Banana chopped up into a bowl for breakfast.
Flora on toast for lunch (2 slices) sometimes marmite on toast
Then eat whatever I want for dinner.
The beauty of this is, you can deviate from the diet occasionally and it doesn't affect you that much...for instance today I actually had a sausage and egg mcmuffin meal for breakfast as I was bloody starving after a night shift and then sleep...as long as you don't eat crap all the time it's okay.
You may not be able to run far to start with, but just do what I did, run until you need to stop, then walk for a bit...then when less winded, run for a bit more until you need to walk. After a few weeks you'll find you're running more than walking. Also I do recommend that you get some proper running shoes , they really do help..and you can pick up some basic asics pretty cheap. |

I do drink, probably three or four pints of guinness or newcastle brown 4 times a week, will cut that down. I've been parking the car a good 20 minute walk away from work instead of right outside so I'm walking for 40 or 80 minutes a day now.
My girlfriend thinks I'm being stupid but it's more about just losing 4 inches off the waist and getting less out of breath from running a short distance, general fitness.
