The bike colour on my logbook is blue but the bike has black tank/plastics with a red frame.

How do I change it/how much is it/do I need to?

What will happen if I don't and what if I do?

Ta Thumbs Up

On the blue version of the V5c log book there is a section about changes and one part which is for change of colour.Fill in the relevant colour and send it to DVLA and hope that you get it back from them.

Keep a photocopy of the form before you send it off.

If you do not want DVLA to claim that you did not send it,post it registered. That way you can trace if it was signed for by those divvies in Swansea.

Ah, I'll have a look upstairs later on, didn't realise it was actually on the logbook.

Do you need the logbook to get insurance, mot or tax as I will be needing them soon so may send it off when I have all of those.

Can't remember it has been so long I got either of those Razz

IIRC Keep the Log Book number written down - you can get tax online that way. MOT you dont need the log book - Insurance I did mine over the phone and they didnt ask.

I once filled that bit in three times in a row and each time they sent it back with the original colour still on there.

In the end, I gave up. If they want to insist it's black, not green, who am I to argue?

Tbh, the colour is very vague.
One of my bikes was 'Grey' when it was black.
One of my old cars was 'brown' but was quite clearly bright red.
Im sure ive seen something on here before with peoples bikes being totally different colours. Sent the log book off, if they fuck around like in stinkwheels case i wouldnt worry Thumbs Up

Had the same issues as Stinkwheel, though I gave up after the first attempt

Rang DVLA
The guy on the phone said to circle all the incorrect items and ammend them

So the engine CC, colour and engine number duly got circled and ammendments were made and sent off (not registered or photocopied first...just sheer blind faith)

They blatantly ignored my ammendments and just sent me a fresh V5 with the original old and incorrect details...waste of a postage stamp and phone call TBH

Insurance didn't seem bothered (I did point out I had a 360cc and not a 250cc engine and that it was green rather than yellow)
My ins docs came through correct (CC wise), so maybe they did change on "the database", but not on the V5 itself?

I'm no longer the regged keeper so not my problem now

Have changed engines in my kitcar several times and not bothered to inform anyone other than my insurance co

I guess if I changed CC on the car to any meaningful extent (along the lines of a tax band change) I would let DVLA know and in return I'm sure they would make me jump through hoops to prove I was not chipping them financially

The GPZ500 is down as being a different colour to what it is in reality and its never bothered me to the point I thought I should waste a stamp and risk a lost V5 for my troubles

Regards
Rob

Theoretically you should, however I have been riding a white Fazer with Penelope Pitstop artwork for a couple of years which still has the original 'red' colour on the logbook. Thats been through at least 2 MOT's no problem.

I suspect no one will give a shit until you get pulled for something else, then they will happily add it to your lst of transgressions!

Think I'm going to send it off. Take pictures of what I have edited and of it in am envelope. That way if it comes back blue again I'm not gonna send it off a second time but I can cover my arse. I'll just say I have tried it before and many people said to me they have done it and it hasn't changed. I have photos to prove if as well.

Cheers for that guys. So shall I send it off now or wait til I'm riding it?

I must have got lucky, as I got a colour change done no problem, for the cost of a stamp. I did put a covering letter in with it noting that the colour was the only change.

As noted above, there does seem to be some colour blindness in the DVLA records. GF had a KA, that was purple, down as blue on the log book. My brother's, quite frankly metallic lilac car was also down as blue.

That's down to the marketing departments of the makers; they tend not to use words like 'purple'and 'lilac' to describe colours, because it's a bit gender specific, so anything that's got any blue in it, becomes blue.

Similarly, there are certain colours that go in and out of fashion, so my Merc is registered as silver, the colour is listed as Smoke Silver, but it's clearly gold.
