There is a 'no student' parking rule at the college im attending. Its for staff only. There is a very minimal amount of free parking for the day surrounding the college, so you are advised to go to the nearest multistory, paying a pretty hefty fee for the duration. Or piss around every time you attend, looking for residential parking. There isn't much.

Opposite the college is a pub, that is no closed down. Only a 'To Let' sign and a car park remain. So i saw no reason, now the lands not in use, to use it for the days parking.
Some clown in a hi-viz vest comes over to my window, demands £5 for private parking of the day.
He says the car park is owned by the brewery, so i have to pay.

Is this just a piss take, or is this fine. No one is there but they've seen an opportunity to charge as a car park. Confused

Ask him what brewery
Where his official ID is as far as you know he could be a homeless numpty getting free £5
That you want it in writing stating that its a chargable carpark

Then you will pay. Until then, you'll park there.

Hi

Not sure there is much to stop them asking for a fee for parking on their private land (assuming the bod is anyone to do with the brewery and not just someone with a hi viz taking advantage).

However not sure they can do much to stop you. Main thing they could do would be to wheel clamp you and there are various rules on signage for that to be allowed.

All the best

Keith

Disused car parks (that are still owned) are prime territory for private clamping firms, so i'd be more wary of that.

Although there are rules, its often a case of clamp first, ask questions later, which means you have an immobilsed car, which is not the best place to be to try and sort it out afterwards.

I agree but there are no signs at all.
You can't clamp with no warnings surely. Neutral

Tell him to do one.

My understanding was that even if they ticket you unless it's a ticket issues by the council they're pretty much unenforceable. Depends if you want to carry on parking there I guess.

Why not just go on the bike and dump it next to the college doors or similar?
