No Claims Bonus/Discount usually only accrues to the policy holder.
I recall one insurer spouting that additional drivers accrued their own NCD, but I can't recall who, or if they actually followed through on it.
It's a big risk to fib about it, since you're likely to get caught and the best case is that you'll be given the opportunity to pay the extra premium anyway.
Sorry, I know it sucks, but there's no magic wand to get yourself into a lower risk category. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Something that always confuses me is why young drivers are drawn towards cars that are cheap to run and tax, even though the insurance is so much higher on them.
Try getting a quote for a Jaguar XJ6 Sovereign 4.0. I had one, the renewal quote was £270. I sold it and bought a 1.1 Metro, which cost me £450 to insure. The cheap Jag quote came from a specialist classic car insurer, and they did cover fairly young drivers (definately down to 21, maybe lower) at reasonable prices. Found it one of the comparison websites.
It only did 15 to the gallon, but you would need to drive an awful lot of miles to make up the difference in the insurance price. Nice drive too, and a 4 litre engine is fun.
When I was 18 I had a few big old saloons - Merc 190E, BMW 320i, and a Ford Scorpio 2.3. The insurance was half the price of that on a hatchback because 18 year olds don't buy (and crash) big saloons.
Also look at medium 4x4s like the Land Rover discovery, Vauxhall Frontera (crap, but fun offroad), Suzuki Vitara. Often driven by school run mums or parents in general, so a different demographic.
Look at classic cars too. A girl I knew had an MGB at 18 on a classic policy. She didn't accrue any no-claims bonus, nor was it taken into account when getting a quote, but it did allow commuting.
Basically, look at the cost of car ownership opposite to most people. Your insurance is so unbelievably expensive that the purchase price of the car and depreciation, fuel and servicing costs, road tax and reliability need to be secondary factors. |

Nice one. Heck, if push came to shove, you could buy yourself a nice little Indonesian bride for less than what you saved. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

^^ exactly the point he was making, your talking about a sporty little hatchback, the kind of thing insurance rapes you for.
A couple of years ago, I was 19 and had a 3.0l manual Vauxhall Omega, insurance on it was cheaper than a 1.6 Astra. Just because a car in your eyes is a cheap little run around, doesn't matter to insurers, they all go by statistics.
Say in your town, 100 corsa's have been crashed in the past couple of years, the price to insure them goes up.
Yet, in the same town, a big engined estate car with 4 x the power etc only has 2 crashes on record, obviously the price is going to be lower... ____________________ Currently Riding - 2002 Aprilia RSV1000 Mille |

Agree with Robby.
Passed my test last year bought a 1.6 megane insurance £1500 quid, car was insurance group 5.
Got my 1st years no claims in July bought a Vauxhall Omega 3.0, insurance group 16 or 17 can't remember. Insurance 720 quid.
I can insure an M3 cheaper than I can insure a hot hatch like clio 172 or Civic type R, and I know which I would prefer. ____________________ www.southwestbikers.com

For the record, a lot of people - if not the absolute majority lie, I can't say I've been absolutely truthful in my driving history but no company can prove whether me knowingly lying on a policy has taken place.
Bennetts recently took the piss over the modifications thing and I think maybe it only retracted because if they actually held their policy on the mods thing, they'd have only a very select few clients actually left.
when I insured the NS one year and they asked abuot mods I told them I'd changed some tarty fairing bit (i forget what) and the chaps words to me where "as long as it doens't increase performance of the vehicle we don't class it" - this is different to them saying they dont bother with it, because that means the terms are there they just choose not to act on certain clauses when it's convenient for them IE when they want policy money but change their minds when you have a crash.
'Not classing it' so is taken as they do not take aesthietic modifications as an ammendment to the vehicle which they are aware differs from the manufacturers spec. ____________________ Roger wrote: Women don't get damp for clingy puppies. Lied every single time
Never been found out so far, but did get stung when I declared 4 years NCB which I had, when they asked for proof and I could only prove 3 they shafted me with a £300ish charge. Twats ____________________ ♥ YZF-R6 '05 ♥
