C'on - Whos the unlucky ones that have to work Christmas day?!
With our new 'system' with Hampshire Im stuck with a 12 hours shift Christmas Eve and 12 Christmas Day.
As much as Im disgusted there is nothing I can do.
Told my folks & son to go to London to my sisters, so he will have other children to muck about with.
Ill be comming home to a bottle of Whiskey by myself

Gutted, especially with a kid, do you work for the NHS by any chance? My GFs mum is a nurse and always ends up working christmas.

Ive taken a look at the Rotas, and 3 of us are on... But a 4th member is too (all 12 hours, as it can be hectic) However.... He did say to me yesterday 'Gonna ask if I can do 6 hours on Xmas day' - IF he gets 6 hours work I will be going to head office. Unfair in my opinion. Hard enough explaining to my nipper we will have a 'pre' Xmas meal and presents - Before Xmas day its self

Where I used to work, if we were working Christmas, we got new year off, if we weren't working Christmas, we had to work new year

The following year it would swap.

I'm not doing Xmas day, finish work on Xmas eve at around 5pm, and not in again until Wednesday evening.

Doing New Years eve at work, again until 5pm, and then getting a bit of sleep before going on duty for the evening...should be good!

I am working Christmas eve night (I'm a nurse). Should be chilled this year as I am on general and liver ITU at the moment so reduced surgery lists, still the transplants etc on though.

Last year I was on Trauma and Burns, that was a busy busy old shift.

I have NYE off though

I've recently become self employed so I'm gonna take the whole week off! /gloat

One of my childhood friends is coming to visit me too so I'm planning to take him out in London, I normally hate Xmas but this one is looking good so far.

i work in a private emi unit and worked the last 5 yrs on christmas eve & day and boxing day not fair on my 2 kids but they sorta got used to me not being there

but this year will be my first christmas off and were goin out for dinner i cant wait
and if ive worked it out right i wont work another christmas day for 4 yrs

I've been away on a contract in the middle east since August, I'm due home on the 13th December but they told me last week I'll be here until January, so i'll be doing minimum 8 hours on Christmas day and new years eve and also be on 24 hour watch call

When I was a chef I used to volunteer to work christmas day; we were only open for 3 hours, triple pay, people used to buy us drinks, they all preordered so prep was easy..... Used to be home by 2pm for presents and more booze!

12 hour days sounds like a nightmare though, is there any chance you will be able to have next Christmas off?

I'm working in my Health Care Assistant Job over Christmas but not back in Uni till January the 5th.

Working the 23,24th and 25th Nights on EMI unit wouldn't of minded if it was residential floor. On the plus side its nights so we can have a good crack. Also its double pay well the 23rd isn't but Christmas eve and day are, and boxing day time and half.

My Christmas will be boxing day can't moan I suppose as i had the last two Christmas's off, last year tho was none drinking as i was only 1 week post op from a Hernia repair.

When I was back home I would work xmas day every year. The rest of the chef's all had kids or grandkids so it wasnt a problem me working as I lived alone.

Since I have been in Portsmouth and have a family now I have managed to get xmas off. I'm loving it.

Without meaning to sound like a shite, Louise, I've managed to wrangle an epic win this year. 16/12 - 8/1: it's the first time I've managed to pool all my overtime into time off in lieu that successfully, and I'm intending to give a few projects that have been simmering for a while a serious kicking.
You do, however, have my sympathies. I can't help but wonder, given the arseache you've had with this lot, if it's not worth looking at other opportunities, maybe in private healthcare? Council positions aren't so well protected these days, so the sole advantage is on the wane, really.

I'm working 5pm-4am Christmas Eve into Christmas Day... and the same again New Year's Eve into New Year's Day. I'm not allowed a life, it seems!

Been told might be working over Christmas and New Year. In the rubbish shoot of a factory, changing out the belts.

12hour nights though, so should be able to get home, and have a few hours kip before presents and stuff.

I worked Christmas eve, Christmas night and Boxing night for three years. It didn't bother me though as I'm young and don't have any kids. I used to DJ a fair bit and would often do disco's for pubs around that time. Double pay on Christmas eve and boxing day with triple pay on Christmas night. I was as happy as a pig in shit.

On the other hand when I was a sprog up until the age of 7-8 I hadn't had a Christmas day with both my mother and father being there. Both worked in theaters and more often than not my dad would work Christmas day and my mum would work the night. Arseache.

Im working xmas out of choice, getting 10.50/hour for a 10 hour day for 3 days, xmas eve, xmas day and boxing day. In return i get new years eve, new years day and 2/1/12 off

i have no problems with this... im not an xmas person anyway...
