Can anyone please recommend a decent tyre inflator for dual use on cars and bikes?

Halfords digital, if you have the use of a car the plug issue is of no concern.
Next door has the digital one I have the cheaper dial version.

Double-barrel foot pump. I don't know why anyone uses the powered type, they take longer and make a lot of noise and most of the time it only takes about three presses of a foot pump and the job is done. I use a foot pump + a cheap digital tyre pressure gauge.

Try Wilko`s (Wilkinsons) they do a named brand (RING) 12v tyre compressor https://www.wilkinsonplus.com/car-maintenance/ring-automotive-compact-air-compressor-12v-mini/invt/0120244/?htxt=eUvpT8ZH%2BxWDV0gqtvXXUFqoY8%2F8eH8sYap0BKveGsTHzx97%2FY6B8jbkp7GAnTKnkM4xqZSTfhF9%0ARz8hltrVKg%3D%3D

I have a michelin one from Halfords, it was about £30 with 25% off and to be honest, it's "alright" but not great.

This one

https://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_223123_langId_-1_categoryId_255241

I'm not retarded, but every time I use it I have to read the manual to get the pressure gauge to show the correct tyre pressure (if you connect/switch on/press buttons in the wrong order, it doesn't display the current tyre pressure and starts showing from 0psi) I find the screw connection fiddly compared to the normal ones with the flip lever when using it on the bike as the hose isn't very flexible. The casing feels flimsy, and I'm sure I'm gonna break the cable storage flap off soon.

It pumps bike tyres up pretty quick, but my Discovery tyres (255/60/18) it is properly slow and by the time I have got it out, read the manual and pumped the tyres up, I could have just driven to the garage and paid my 20p for the machine.

So I WOULDN'T recommend one of these! Thumbs Down

Think a few BCF-ers will prove this wrong as I spent a good 10 minutes pumping my tyres with one of these only going from 28ish to 36/42.

A cheapy air compressor that runs on 12v will do. Seen a few for around £50-£80 on ebay. Great if you want to do your own tyres changes as well.

Shocked

I can't afford to spunk £50-£80 on just being lazy.

+1 for the £5 footpump. Keeps you fit too.

In which case there was something wrong with it.

I've pumped up the tyres on my transit van using one before now.

Now that did take a good 15 minutes.

That said, some of the best manual pumps I've used are bicycle track pumps. I've pumped up a 160 section motorcycle tyre using one. They are designed to put 140psi in 22 section bicycle tyres so it takes surprisingly little time and effort to put 42psi in a much bigger tyre. Probably shifting a similar overall volume of air all things considered.

Please excuse the threadomancy, but if anyone wants a cheap air compressor, Asda are selling them half-price for £5.

The halfords digital 12v one is nice for being 'set and forget' as it automatically turns off - so good for doing van tyres from flat etc as you can leave it to do it's thing without worry of stuff exploding etc Smile.

Hasn't arrived yet, but I've just ordered one of these which I thought looked good for the money:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/260910569830?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2648

I'm tired of buying £5 jobbys (one of them the Halfords one) that only last 5 minutes before buckling and/or falling apart.

I'll post a review once it gets here and I've tried it out.

I've used a bicycle track pump and it takes some SERIOUS work to inflate a car tyre to 32psi. I sometimes try to count just to see how long I've been stood in the road inflating my tyres when one of them had a slow puncture and needed to be pretty much fully inflated every 2 weeks (got it fixed now, no need to worry).
On my car tyres it takes about 150 pumps from not registering any pressure (in reality it's above atmospheric pressure.....) and my arms are a bit tired after doing that. It is this model from Halfords:
https://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_178303_categoryId_165661_langId_-1?cm_sp=Intelligent_Offer-_-Product_List_Zone_1-_-Blank&iozone=PLPz1

Still, it's not so bad at inflating my bicycle tyres Wink

You can buy a good compressor for little more than £10 or £15, that's all I use, small enough to carry, excellent if you get a slow puncture while riding and runs happily off a cigarette lighter socket on the bike.

Considering this has been brought back up thought id mention something i've found in an old bike magazine. Tyre pressure gauges been reviewed from may2011 all came within 0.5psi.

Best gauges were the;

Drapers 74308 Pencil gauge

I'll post a review once it gets here and I've tried it out.

Arrived yesterday, bit disappointed tbh. It doesn't feel as strong as it looks or as I'd hoped, and one of the two 'heavy duty' pistons doesn't sit quite straight. Don't think it'll affect it for now, but as it gets more use I can see it becoming a weak point.

Wish I'd gone for the slightly more expensive Michelin one. Oh well.

Sorry about bringing the thread back up however just wondering how easy is it to read these pumps, thinking of getting one as I can't find a digital foot pump.
