I know this applies to only a few but to all the member who have or have had mopeds i need a little help, i have a 2002 Suzuki Ay50wr which as standard got 32 mph down a large hill with the wind behind me, I then got a metrokit exhaust system for it, i thought this would fully derestrict it but was disappointed to see 47 mph down the same hill, i looked around the web and found a web page on full derestrictions (https://www.flexistentialist.org/archives/2003/10/28/derestricting_an.shtml) <- this maybe useful for other 'pedi ninjas'

I looked through this webpage and found out that the manufacturers restrict there moped at several place so today i went to do the variator de restriction but found there is no washer in the variator so i'm now re assembling it all.

Does anyone no where the other restrictions on the ay50wr are or is it just a slow scooter.

Thanks

Scott

Sounds about right for a 50cc when fully derestricted really, maybe slightly lower than the general 50mph, but seems fully de-restricted already.

Of course it does. Thats got a very very optomistic speedo then, you're not doing much more than about 50-55mph real speed.

Just going by your name scott_hood_88 you should not be de-restricting your moped, and do you fully understand the consequensies of what could happen?

When you turn 17 i will happily tell you how to "fully de-restrict" your moped so it does 100mph, i will even fit you one of ste's powerbands and some cool neons.

Not many people here will tell an underage person how to de-restrct a moped, some will but some won't.

No kryptix your NRG does not do 75, 65 or probably not even 60.

The nrg has 50 on the clock so what makes you "think you are doing 65/70?

Is it a well educated guess?

Thanks anyway

The RS125 would definately be a better investment.

According to taffspeed, if you put a high revving race pipe on a Katana, it can rev to 12000rpm, which is way above the max power speed. this is apparenty due to the std gearing being rarther on the low side. Id try a bigger Variator with more range, or else go for a gear up kit, and then you will need to go much lighter on the rollers and use stronger clutch springs to get a resonably fast pick up from standstill. The gear kit is the best option if you plan to put a 70cc kit on it, but bear in mind even then you would only see 60-65mph, though it would get there a bit faster. It will cost £££'s to tune your Kat to a decent level of performance, ive been there with a Speedfight100, and trust me it really isnt worth the money you will waste trying to get decent performance, and a fast getaway. My SF used to wear belts very quickley and i even had a belt snap on me once and lock the back wheel at 55mph! Scooters bloody evil things!

Katana ay50's are a very low gearing, even lower than it's predecessor the ap50.

I highly advise the rs125 rather than a bore kit, as it is a NEW (to you) BIKE to play on, it has fun GEARS and would not blow up as easily as a highly tuned, bored moped. It would also go roughly 30mph faster, get to 60mph about 4 times faster, is more stable and demands more of the road, looks so much better and although still being 2 stroke it sounds so much better.

TBH why try crank up the speed of a 50, wait and get a 125, dont see why people race on 50's, just to say "mines better than yours" or perhaps its to impress the ladies? yes very macho

Exactly his point, he doesn't see the point in anyone else trying to make theirs go any faster as his is such so fast its a fast of time as he thinks only he can say "mines better than yours" and he's impressed all the chav ped girls already? Razz

It might point to where the number 70 would be, but it still doing a true speed of about 50-55mph ish, it isn't doing 70 so do yourself a favour as the only one you're kidding is yourself. Thumbs Up

Say what you will, as I said before you're only kidding yourself.

And it's so mature to try to kid the world as to you can actually go faster than you can to try to impress everyone. Bit like rating people who disagree with you as flaming you. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Thumbs Down

I 'll wait till i'm 17 then, i was hoping there would be a cheap way of getting it to go at a half descent speed, and no i'm not a chav that shows of to the girls lol, i'm just trying to keep up with traffic as i feel like an arse being over taken by everyone, and what really took the mick was when an elderly laddie dressed casually over took me on aerox 100 (i hope it was the 100 anyway) i was on mine fully kitted up, and felt like a complete prat.

Just put up with it mate, i did.

Don't bother tuning your ped as it's a waste of time. I tuned the bollocks off mine and then it blew up. (And no it did not do 70mph, infact it never even saw 60mph)

Ste is not saying you did not see 70mph, because you may have, but moped speedos are very poor at recording speed at anything over 40mph and are often up to 20mph off.

So you may have seen 70mph but, the best bet is that it was a very unaccurate reading and you were doing no more than 55.
