So the revalution has finally come and you are required to buy a NEW bike as every home must have one.

What would you buy?
You dont have magic amounts of cash, just the income you have now.

Me! personally I have a shoestring income so it would not be a top of the range1000cc bike Sad
so for me the choice would be the new hondaCBR 250 or the Hyosung GTR 250.

C`mon mighty BCF tell us what you would buy if you had to? Thumbs Up

Fantastic ride! Cool

If buying new now, and i'd got rid of my other bikes then an S1000RR or Ducati 1199 (£15k one though). I'd test ride both first though and see what one was the most fun.

With trade in on current bike I'd get a VFR800. Very Happy

Without ... CBF600. Neutral

If I saved my end of year bonus and promotion bonus from work, then maybe a Triumph Tiger or Suzuki Bandit S.

If I could get finance on it, there's a NOS Exup 1000 for sale, £10k, could do it if I scraped everything together and ate a negative amount of food :-/

Id have the realistic means to get virtually any bike, provided its no more than about 12-14k new if I could get finance, but insurance would be a different matter completely. (esp fully comp/a thou).

That and the fact that I do not want to be tied in to finance if i can help it.

Looking at about 2008 Ducati 848s early next year but would mean a small loan so I guess that's what I'm realistically prepared to accept.

Fantasy shopping with a realistic budget is a bit of a trick question.

I really don't find the new price compelling on any bikes, and I'd start looking at the bottom of every range.

I'd start by trying the G650GS (£5150), and if Suzuki do another £1 off per cc, the SV650S at £4325 rather than its usual list of £4975 is pretty tempting. I don't like the new humpy-insect 2012 ER6n, the CBF600 is meh, and Yamaha are having a laugh with the pricing on the Divvy. The Triumph classics are probably out of my price range as well.

Sorry manufacturers, try adding some simplicity and pricing bikes as utility transport rather than aspirational crisis-toys, and we can talk.

Apart from the fact I wouldn't buy anything brand new (nearest I would get is ex-demo, let someone else waste the initial depreciation) I've just discovered why I stick with old bikes.

I've been through the model line ups for every manufacturer I would consider (Big 4, Triumph, BMW and Guzzi) and I can only find a couple of bikes I like.

I might be tempted by a CB1000R, although the Yam XJR1300 is more my kind of bike, but I ain't paying 9+ grand for anything.

I'd look at a Bonneville T100, but I don't know what the quality is like.

Which leads me to say +1 to this ...............

The W800 looks nice, but it's essentially the same money as a Bonny (more than the base or SE, a shade less than the T100) and doesn't exactly wipe the floor with it. And anything over £6K is (IMO) too much for what should be basic bikes. They're both lovely looking things, but I don't see why either of them should cost more than an SV650.

I don't disagree with you, but I was taking the question at face value; looking at what's available, what would I buy brand new, if I was forced.

I'd have a question mark over the Bonny's quality, plus I would want to add the Arrow 2-into-2 option, which pushes the price up another grand.

In terms of looks and performance, I could live with the Kwak straight out of the box and I wouldn't be worried about quality.

Now, if they decided to make a 21st century Z900/1000 and it looked like the W800SE, for the same sort of price, I'd be banging their door down........

if it had to be brand new then i'd just trade my current 675 for either a new one in black, or possibly the R.

But they'd have to drag me kicking and screaming to the dealer to trade mine in atm Razz
