SO about 4 months ago i rode for the first time on a 11 year old cg125. It was crap. I was convinced I'd stopped liking biking!

Today I bought a YBR125 (of my own, the cg was my bro's) 2008, after saving up for AG EEESSS. I love it TO BITS! I'm just writing this to express my re found passion - this is the feeling I was looking forward to all these years! Anyone who's a nut about cleaning/preventative maintenance - throw your full explanations and walkthroughs here. Naturally I want to keep it looking as gorgeous as it does now. (1700 miles and not a scratch, YUM!) I also want it to last for donkeys years, through uni at least (so about 7 years from now).

Many thanks,

Tom!

I had the feeling about 30 years ago, I will never forget when it got nicked, dropped, ridden down some stairs in Plymouth, I didn't want it back from the garage... I felt I had been violated Laughing

Get a good lock, chain, if you have a good one already, get a better on!

Ah sweet! I like the YBRs, lovely commuter bikes. Smile as the guy above me says - invest in a good lock and chain, possibly a disc lock too. If a theif wants YOUR bike, they will get it, the trick is to slow them down enough to deter them.

Have fun riding! Very Happy Laughing

Oil change early and often, ACF-50 all over it. Buy a bottle rather than cans, it'll last for years.

Bear in mind it only costs £121.50 to pass all your tests, which is far cheaper than re-doing CBTs every 2 years. Your insurance costs will come down even if you stick with the YBR, you can lose the L plates of shame and add some pillion candy.

Also, it'll give you access to more bike for the same money. Just for example, you can likely get a YBR 250 for much the same money, running costs will be only marginally higher and insurance is likely to be less since 125s come with a Learner weighting.

Yeah I will be getting a lock asap. Are you seriously suggesting a chain AND disk? Surely a disk lock is alot more manageable? I'm a sheltered little boy... when you say everywhere, what do you actually mean? Razz Chain/all nuts&bolts/sprockets/wheels/cables?

You looking after the bike is relatively easy, getting the thiefing Janners to do the same is much more difficult, Defineteley look towards the bottle of ACF 50 as mentioned by Roger above!

I ride a '07 Carb YBR in Plymouth, only had to fight one Stone house Crack head off it so far... Laughing

YBR's are pretty easy to take care off, Check/clean/lube/replace chain (DID's are the best) change the oil every 1.5k/2k miles (I buy castrol 10/40 i think, at £14 a litre), Buy an iridium spark plug (£4), Buy a halogen head light (£4) the stock one is shite. I'v given my air 'filter' a clean out once, and need to check the fuel 'filter' and carb...
