2004/5 Yamaha R6, have no idea what oil to put in

Could anyone tell me what kind of oil or maybe even recommend one you rate?

I'm told Tesco's own will do the trick, but I'd rather pay extra and go overkill Thumbs Up thanks in advance

I'd go for Power 1 Racing 4T 10W-40 (fully synthetic) or Power 1 4T 10W-40 (part synthetic), depending on just how much you are willing to pay for premiumness.

I use Hein Gerickes semi-synth in all of my bikes except the KTM enduro, where I use Shell fully-synth from M&P at £23 for 4 litres.

HG also throw in a free oil filter with every 4 litres of their oil, normally costing £8.

+1 For Motul

Ducati gets Motul 300v Factory Line 10w40.
XS650 winter hack gets anything remotely oily.

On the subject of oil... Is car oil suitable for use in bikes? I literally need to top up and I just bought 10w/40 Semi Synth Castrlol GTX. It says "For petrol and Diesel CARS. But i'm not sure if that's just a generalisation... I know there is bike specific oil that you can get but would this stuff be okay? Even for just a top up?

Castrol GTX has friction modifiers which can make certain bike clutches slip. Cars have a dry clutch, bikes generally run wet clutches...

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Use it if you want, but don't bitch when the clutch starts slipping.

Stick in Asda/Tescos/Halfords/Lidls/Aldi/Sainburys/Morrisons/Whoever 10/40 Semi - change every 1500 miles - not worth fretting about. Not like an oil change takes more that 15 minutes to do.

GTX has no friction modifiers, At least, the Castrol GTX I put in doesn't, in fact the API rating is the same as the 02 R6 requires, in "bike oil"

However, do avoid magnatec

I used GTX in my TDM the bike ran like shit, I changed the oil after a week to the usual semi synth bike oil I used and it was fine.
