I'm not sure what a 33hp restricted bike would be like, but thanks to a dodgy powervalve mine was making 37.5hp.
It definitely felt a fair bit more powerfull than other rs125s I've ridden, though I don't think I've ridden any great ones.
Handling wise I defintely preffered the 250, even though it's got a soggy front end it still felt a lot sharper. But then again I've got it set up as best as possible with the standard suspenion.
Personally I'd go with the 250 just because it offers you a lot more potential. Ride it restricted for a while, then when you're ready you've got a bike that's very capable. Embaressed a couple of R1s at Cadwell a while ago on my stock one . |

Fuck yes its wheelieable. RS125's are wheelieable, so the RS250 should have very little trouble.
Fact is that an RS125 is NOT 33bhp, not even at the crank, at the back wheel it would be 28 at best, likely less.
RS250 would be restricted to 33bhp at the rear wheel, thus making it faster.
The RS250 is the quicker, cheaper, better bike. However restriction costs £150, and you cant ride it till after your test. At least with an RS125 you can ride it on a provisional for a bit then derestrict it when youve done your test |

Now here's a thing... I do have some rs250 restrictors not doing 'owt... but I dunno how that works with getting the cert.
The RS250 is wheelyable, but not amazingly well, mine is making 53, about 5hp down on a decent stock one (clogged up exhausts mostly I think... previous owner 'pootled' a bit I think . )
The gearing is fairly high as stock. Mine is slightly downgeared (think just one tooth on rear, may have been more, ie one on the front). When going into the powerband the front will lift in first on a good day or at least go light on a not so good day.
However it isn't great for doing wheelies... I was better on my nsr125, though aint tried much on the 'prilia! At the powerband the revs run out very quickly, lower down it comes down to earth before it gets to the powerband. |

You say for when you're getting use to it, when you de-restrict it, it's pretty much a totally diferent bike. You remove the restrictors by taking the carbs off and there will be big washers there, just remove those and put everything else back together. No one has to actually know if you are a sensible enough rider for it other than yourself. Country roads are a bad selection really for going fast on due to the fact they're narrow and poor visibilty and the fact there are annoying things like tractors, cows, horses and general big cars without much room to pass. And the bike will be restricted in it's acceleration just as much as it is on the top speed of it. The only bit which will be the same on a restricted bike is the braking, apart from the fact not from as high speeds or acceleration.
If caught, which is quite unlikely really but there is still the chance, you would be done for no insurance and no license and they'd probably do you for whatever else they could think up. Police could pick up on it, or your insurance company could do but unlikely unless you had a claim on your insurance and even then not likely but it still entirely possible they could, although never heard of anyone being caught by them or the police for 33bhp. |

Thats the dyno output of an RGV (same engine as early RS250's). power band on them is fairly harsh, 60bhp coming through in such a burst in 1st gear would make the front go very light indeed, bit of clutch work and it will wheelie no problem.
restricting it will basically eliminate the power band, making it completly different to ride |
