Noticed these when looking at G's post - merino wool underlayers for £15.99 (normally anywhere from £50+) in Aldi. Merino wool is awesome stuff, very warm, breathable, you don't sweat as much, thin, non itch, hypoallergenic etc etc. Perfect as a baselayer on the bike this winter. Only pain in the ass is it is a bit awkward to wash.

I have a few merino wool jumpers, lovely stuff.

I will be getting some wool long johns Thumbs Up

Crikey, that is a good price for 100% merino, it's just a shame that the tops are short sleeve.

Wool's an amazing material, vastly under-rated these days. Indeed, in the 12th century, the English wool industry [...imagine Teflon-Mike style dissertation here...] which is why you should always buy a sheep dinner before you pin it down and give it a damn good shearing.

+1 for Merino, I use it when I go Snowboarding. It doesnt matter if you sweat like a beast, I normally stop for a beer and take my jacket off for half an hour and its bone dry. Doesn't stink ever. I paid about £45 for my last one so if these are any good its a top price! Thumbs Up

Either Aldi or Lidl did something similar in I think a lycra form long sleeve, makes you look like the blue guy from Tron, these were £8 for bottom, £8 for tops (£16 all in) I find them quite good, although I may have to get a set of those, do prefer long sleeve if I am honest.

These were going fast in my local Aldi.

Already have a long sleeve merino top that cost me £25 elsewhere so got a couple of pairs for long johns.

I got one of the last pairs of long johns in my local place. I won't say that I had to beat a pensioner with my chain until he released his grip on them, because one doesn't like to boast. Shifty

I've had a feel and a sniff, the quality seems OK. Fairly thin, but that's what you want in a base layer and I am optimistic they'll perform better than my current cotton ones.

That's the way they roll, some stores just get no stock.

Can't speak to the length, they're quite stretchy so it's difficult to measure accurately. The "Large" fit my 34" waist just fine, and aren't too baggy on my stumpy 29" inner leg. They'd probably do a good few inches more on the leg, but they'll by covered by socks anyway, right?

Hmm, sounds like they are going to be too short for me. Thanks for giving me an idea of length. Especially as my inner leg is a good 6" longer than yours... Wink Laughing

Yup they'll go to a regular leg length just fine, but likely not to freak-legs like yours (as opposed to freak-legs like mine). Razz

Picked some up tonight. *Mens medium bottoms and Ladies large top.
Fit good.

Also got some salopettes. They say they're waterproof.... tested in the shower and they let water in the main zip, ok everywhere else. Might come in handy.

*measured 30" inside leg, i'm a 32" leg and they're fine.

I wore mine all day today, in snow, wind and hot office under a pair of light linen trousers.

I'm genuinely impressed, they did a great job of insulation against the cold and wind, but were comfy and cool indoors. They're significantly better than my cotton ones, well recommended.

Strange because I wore mine all day on Friday and by lunchtime all they did was itch.
