No internal bones, it's essentially crab paste when it emerges.

What they refer to 'in the trade' as a soft shell. It's exo-skeleton is squishy and takes a few days (iirc) to harden. All this sort of stuff fascinates me; I used to scuba dive a few years back.

I used to have a pet Rainbow crab called Mr Pinchy.

About every 6 months or so he would go into hiding for a while, eventually he'd shed his old shell and stay hidden until his new shell hardened.

If he'd lost any limbs during the 6 months, they would be replaced whenever he shed.

Unfortunately, during one shed he got tangled in his old shell and drowned.
