reccomend a turd cheap reliable bike < £1000

As you all may remember My bandit and I lost a battle with a lampost about 3 months ago. I thought I'd take that moment to give up riding.

However, after three months of being a cager, and lurking on here and muttering spiteful comments to myself about people who still had bikes, I want another one.

However, I am seriously cash strapped.

I want a bike just to ride. Dont care what it is. But i don't know that many bikes which will fall under my category. I just dont want a pit bike.

SV650

these are the ones i've tried. are there any i'm missing. the main thing is they need to be able to take neglect. Don't care if they look a bit shoddy, just needs to run sweet.

Any ideas?

Just the usual bike stuff.

Check front brake, can crud up.

Used and abused one for a couple of years with no isses. Even started after 18 months in the garage of no use. Just charged the battery and it fired up

Not much to watch for I think... they're good all round. Better to get one with an aftermarket stainless zorst. Tend to be commuters so look for the usual wear and tear bits.

Tbh there are quite a few so you can pick up a relatively tidy one. They just keep going.

I have thrashed mine about for a year, chucked it down the road... and just had to change the oil, adjust the chain and spray some WD40 in the plug cap.

You can get a triumph tt600 for £900 on ebay. A bit more quality than the bikes you were thinking of, and will have had an easier life.

How cash strapped?

For under a grand you can pick up an early ZZR1100 (the ZZR600 is no cheaper) and they are bloody lovely bikes.

The divvy is always a good shout.

I got an early VFR750 for £800. Cosmetically challenged but mechanically superb. The person I sold it to still has it and its going strong!

FJ1200's are available under a grand and they are pretty bulletproof.

I sold my old ER5 for about £900.

I wish I still had that bike. It did everything, was really reliable, parts were cheap and the best mpg I got was 72.

It went down the road once and cost me less than £30 to fix it. Awesome bike.

Zephyr from me, 550 is reliable as and keeps going with minimum maintenance. Go for the 750 for a bit more grunt, should still be well within your price range.

Going on your location roughly these are some that I've found cheap going through rough sources, just a few ideas clickable links to should be localish bikes to you.

Don't know what type of bikes you like or really that mechanical so just found cheapish bikes.

An NTV600 or 650 is cheap as chips and will go forever. They're the cub50 and 70 of the big bike world!

When you're going for a cheap bike, I wouldn't look for specific models, but go for 'value' generally - find the best out there that's accessible and fits your basic needs.
