Hi guys
I'm just after some information on restrictors.
Would it be possible to restrict a Triumph 1050 sprint st 2009, to 33 bhp. If this is possible, what method of restriction would be used.

Thanks

It's possible but why would you unless you really had to? You'll have a heavier bike but with less power to drive it, it's not really ideal.

I have recently passed my mod 2, but i'm still in the 33bhp club for 2 years. I havent bought a bike yet, but my dad is the owner of the triumph, he said i can have it if i can get it restricted. So I thought i'de put it out there and see if can be done.

Cheers for that sidewinder. Its not available to the general public though. How do I get hold of one of those. Any one know a trade registered company with "fiinternational" from the midlands area?

I imagine a triumph dealership would be able to sort it out for you.

Probably simpler and a lot cheaper to do it electronically. Triumphs come with an easily reprogrammable ECU, a Dyno place could have it setup and a printout for proof in very little time.

Don't you dare pay £170 to get a kit from fiinternational that is shockingly bad value and there certificate means jack shit.

Speak to your local triumph dealer or garage that runs a dyno. You'll be able to get it done electronically for less, and it will be a better restriction.

Will people stop linking this crap.

Go to the Triumph dealership they sell restrictor kits for all their bikes for £30-40.

For the people moaning about the Sprint being too heavy, I would bet good money it is similar to that popular restricted bike the Bandit and will probably have more torque at 33bhp too.

It's not just torque, but the stock gearing too - if it has twice as high gearing in first, the torque will be halved at the back wheel relatively.

The 1050st isn't as highly geared as many litre bikes, especially the sports ones, so may not be too bad. However, I'd still seriously consider down gearing it a good chunk if you plan to keep it the two years. This will help you make the most of the power you do have.

I just looked it up it is £30 for the restrictor from triumph. They charged me £30 to fit mine when I got mine done. £60 fitted from a professional dealer. A lot better than spending £170+ from something unofficial.

For the novice, 'Down Gear' do you mean put a lager chain sprocket on the back wheel?

Yes, I'd also consider a smaller on the front.

Normally I'd try and keep the chain length the same for ease, so go say -2/+2, but in this sort of case I'd be tempted to try (at a guess) something like -2/+10 if it will actually fit.

That way the gearing should be closer to what's expected of a bike that makes 33hp.
Of course it does depend on how the restrictors work.
