i had agreed a deal on a triumph trident t160 with Karl at bikesportuk in Ormskirk he was due to deliver the bike to me on friday lunchtime. i got a phone call just after lunch saying his van had broke down so he could not make it. he said he would contact me later that day to arrange delivery for saturday. he never rang back on friday and i spent all weekend and monday trying to contact him. he never responded
my suspicions were slightly raised at this point.
i sent him an email saying that if he did not contact me by 5pm tuesday i presumed the deal was off. he replied to this on tues am stating that for circumstances beyond his control the bike was no longer for sale.

i did a vehicle enquiry check and lo and behold the bike has just been taxed today so he has sold it on to some one else after agreeing the deal with me.

to say i am miffed is a bit of an understatement.

so be warned when dealing with this guy as he seems really genuine but obviously is not if he pulls stunts like this

I've sent the tosser an email with a link to this. He must have been made a better offer. Shame he had you waste valuable time while he behaved like a cunt.

I had a dealer do this to me a few years ago apart from l had arrange a van to collect a Honda SP2 and he only told me while we were traveling down to collect it (confrimed the prevoius day that it was still ok to collect).

For the next few weeks all his ebay auctions and buy it nows a few hundred items were targeted by fake ebay buyers back in the days when it was easy to do.

Had you put down a deposit? As that would be a contract of sale.

Making Pass the popcorn in anticipation of hearing the other side of the story

That said, Karl at bikesportuk in Ormskirk wouldn't be the first dealer to lose a long term customer and get the Bad Word put out on them, just to put an extra £50 or £100 in his pocket today.

If that's what happened, then I'd assume that Karl at bikesportuk in Ormskirk must be in urgent need of money, and I'd think twice before leaving a deposit or a bike with him. You might turn up to find a robbed out building, with a note on the window saying to contact the administrators, with "ha ha good luck suckaz" scrawled on it.

I have been down to Bikesport UK with TUG off here. I very nearly went to buy an R1 from him. I bought the ZX10R instead but went down a few days later just to check the R1 out and a Raptor quad.

Not sure if Karl is the owner, if it is, he's a nice bloke. Nice place as well, big industrial unit which also houses MTC exhausts in the same unit which is split in half with Bikesport UK. Very clean place and nice bikes in there. It has a room upstairs with couches, massive flat screen TV and bike DVDs, vending machines etc, he said you're welcome to come and just chill out in here if you're ever passing by and want a break.

Must be a reason why that's happened... two sides to a story and all that.

Poor show whatever the reason, even more so if it was sold on for extra money.

Salesman in 'nice guy' ruse non-shocker.

Anyway, if the OPs story is correct then Karl is a prize twat and fucked somebody over. You don't do a deal then weasel out of it with some fluffy nonsense excuse.

I also heard a rumour that Bikesport were going under. I wonder if that is true?

He sold it to someone else for more money. Seems simple enough.

The best salesmen are the ones that you would never expect to screw you over. Why, Karl? I thought we were mates! Karl!

Most salesman are bastards and as Rogerborg said they're 'usually' the best.

The reason he might not have taken the deposit is he may have had someone else on the leash trying to get the readies to pick it up.

From people I know reasonably well they might have 10 people sit down and talk money, delivery dates and say i'll pick it up before one actually does. Muppets like that make some salesman a littlemore cut-throat at the expense of genuine buyers.

It sucks and it's sly and underhanded but i'd always try and get a deposit down.

He wasn't trying to sell me anything though, I saw the R1 online and rang him up to see if it was still there and he said it was and come down and have a look.

I went and bought the ZX a few days later and a few days after that, went to see the R1. So, I stand by my comment that he was a nice bloke, he wasn't trying to sell me anything as I had just bought one.

Very similar thing happened to me with Lings Honda last year!

I agreed to buy a bike of them over the phone at lunch time, but didnt have my card with me to pay a deposit, I said I would calll back in 30mins to pay, when lunch was over, but that the deal was set (I had taken photos of my part-ex and received detailed photos of the new one)

Phoned back 30mins later to say they had taken a deposit of another buyer in the mean time - choice words were said!!

Luckily, I was dealing with the sales manager so I got the bike and a sincere appologie for the hassle! It was another sales chap who had taken the other deposit, but as the deal was set with me minutes earlier, they happily honoured it (even though I had a part-ex and the other party didnt, was suprised they didnt wriggle out TBH!)

Bikes swapped 24 Dec 10! Big Thumbs Up for Lings!!!

Like said, perhaps there is other resons which are none too clear ithout hearing from this Karl chap! If there isnt good reason, vote with your feet and arrange a BCF boycott!!

In my opinion, if you don't put a cash deposit down, it's fair game to someone with a cash deposit or buyer. Sorry but how many times must they hear that on the phone, "Yes, I want it, I will be down soon" and they never turn up.

Works both ways.

In my case it was 240 miles away, so not likely to pop in. I had been speaking to the fella for a few days and got pics sent for them to value my bike, I think he knew I wasnt having a lark about. I think buying long distance needs a touch of trust from both sides, I was lucky I suppose. As the OP had arranged and was awaiting delivery, it wasnt as if he wasnt going to close the deal.

I agree with in the flesh buyers however, there is nothing to stop a serious buyer sticking £50 down to secure, even if it just a holding deposit over the phone!

But the OP offered to put a deposit down.....

Sounds more like "no need for a deposit, that way when I stitch you up you have no comeback" Confused

If you went to the hassle of pics (I know the feeling at this time of the year - I was doing it at 8pm with snow falling around me!) then he is a cumguzzler, he needs to put customers first, not an extra couple of quid!!

He lied, simple as that, the van never did break down, he never tried to deliver at all IMHO, the bike was sold to another party! I can only say I would have been fuckin' livid!!

thats the way it looks to me bencav but have no proof.

still it takes a long time to get a good name in the bike industry, but it can soon be lost once word gets round of dealings such as this

so his monetary gain may well be shortlived

As the fella hasnt put in a guest appearance yet, my thoughts are that customers are the last of his priorities! Last time I looked the country was is recession and all that was keeping companies afloat was loyalty of customers!

Every cloud....Silver lining and all that Jazz! Sure there will be something better/nicer/cheaper comes along soon!

Note to the scummer company: What goes around comes around!!

Still got the R1 I went to look at... was a few scuffs/worn paint on it though and it had zero service history.

I live nearby and stopped by earlier in the year to take a look at a couple of bikes he had in at the time. They weren't quite what I was after, but the chap was genuinely welcoming and (at no cost or personal benefit) went out of his way to put me in touch with another private owner who had a bike (I was after) that he potentially might have wanted to trade with mine.

We also had a conversation about the business (as it was/is a fairly new start up) and I came away with the understanding that a fair bit of the stock was being sold on a commission basis and didn't belong to BikesportUK. It may be that the bike in question was one such vehicle and problems arose between BikesportUK and the owner (perhaps not happy with the commission rate after all?).

Or they could be in financial difficulties and have more to worry about, as has been suggested.

Of course, neither is a good reason not to communicate, but it's not necessarily the case that he screwed you for a better deal.
