Hi,

My mate has done most of his das and is doing the mod 1 Friday (failed once already) and today's mod1 was canceled.

For the mod 2 instead of paying more money for the instructors bike could he not get insured on my bike (soon to be his), i ride it to the test center and stick L plates on? This works better anyway because its going to be generally cheaper (Esp if he fails) and the test center we would use is much closer to us than the test center the DAS school uses.

It works better in our favor but is it actually fine, will have l plates on, i ride it there) and the examiner acts as the instructor anyway right?

Thanks Smile

Yes, it's fine. Being insured, displaying L plates and being on test satisfies the conditions of his provisional entitlement. He could ride a Hayabusa under those conditions.

Strictly speaking, there's no requirement to wear hi-vis (that's only while being accompanied by a DAS instructor) but I'd strongly suggest that he wears it anyway so as not to fail the attitude part of the test.

Good luck getting him put on your policy with a provisional, that might be the sticky bit.

If he's properly insured, then yes - but check out the cost... it might work out as not that much less than the hire bike cost.

On a small-term addition the admin fee (normally about £30) dwarfs the actual insurance cost, and that's if they let you have an additional rider on your policy - a lot don't these days.

Also, factor in how much it would cost you/him to repair it if he bins it...
