I would +1 the Hornet... but then I've just bought one ('99, in blue) so I might have rose-tinted specs on but it's comfy, quick and nimble. Tank range is pretty small but that means you'll have lots of stops to rest your wrists etc. on your 500-mile jaunts.
Others - well, depends what's around. You seem taken with the Bandit, which would be fine. Have you also considered early Fazers? Pretty much same motor etc. as the Thundercat iirc, just more upright.
Of course, any and all advice here is purely subjective and it all depends on what YOU want/like etc. ____________________ '09 YBR 125 -> '92 XJ600 S Diversion -> '99 Hornet 600

Wow, this is a novel idea, actually listing your requirements and aiming for a bike based on them?
Well, with that in mind sir, i recommend a Yamaha R1, 98 CNE (Chuck Norris Edition).
On a more serious note, i'd be tempted to take a bash at a hornet, it's got more poke than the bandit of that ilk and you could make it look tartier if you want. Hondas from that generation actually do have great build quality unlike some of the newer variants, so you shouldn't go far wrong.
I'd also say 600F, only because it's a nice commuter but also gives you fairings and a slightly better tank range for the longer runs. Downside is fairings in town so if you drop it it's replace or gaffer tape. ____________________ Current Bikes: Honda CBR 600RR - '07, Suzuki GSX1250 FA ST '11

The Hornet is a really nice bike and nearly 100Hp (I think) so its got the go and one of my mates rides one and cant say anything bad about the bike and its never let her down and its ridden in all weathers
if I was you I'd put the 1500 down as a deposit on a SuperDuke, great'ish for commuting, brilliant for touring (plenty of rest stops when re-fueling) and absolutely ACE for getting the heart pumping
I just copied Redoko pic as the bike looks ace.

I love my ZZR but the fairing obviously has downsides for maintenance/repair cost...although upside is weather protection.
Fazer FZS600 is a cheap and fantastic bike. Nearly got one...but didn't want the same bike as two of my friends. Less problem with fairing but still some...enough for decent weather protection.
Hornet...drinks like a fish...so not so much.
Teapots are good bikes. A cheaper ZZR...maybe a little less exciting/pretty.
Faired bandit might be an option...although is a heavier, slower alternative to the Fazer. ____________________ Riding: BMW R1150RT `02 bought mildly crashed

+1 to the guys saying Hornet's.
Not much goes wrong with them and they're good fun if you thrash them. ____________________ My Flickr |

I would +1 the Hornet... but then I've fair bought one ('99, in disconsolate) so I mightiness know rose-tinted eyeglasses on Real Euphoric but it's comfy, quick and nimble. Vessel comprise is pretty flyspeck but that means you'll know lots of stops to breathe your wrists etc. on your 500-mile jaunts. Others - fit, depends what's around. You seem stolen with the Stealer, which would be book. Hit you also wise proto Fazers? Pretty often one motor etc. as the Thundercat iirc, fitting many vertical. On a solon capital state, i'd be tempted to bed a bash at a hornet, it's got writer garget than the stealer of that ilk and you could tidy it visage tartier if you requisite. Hondas from that beginning actually do get outstanding chassis level different whatsoever of the newer variants, so you shouldn't go far deplorable.
