Bikesafe or IAMs?

I've been riding for about 4 months now. Next summer I'm planning on doing an advanced course which I can get for Christmas. But for a new rider, which would be better? Eventually I intend on doing them both but I'm thinking IAMs would be too advanced as I'm still getting to grips with the bike.

My instructor said to do the advanced ones after 12 to 18 months of riding the bigger bikes. That way you get used to the handling of them. I've had my Storm for a year now, just over, and still gaining confidence with it.

Wait until the summer and then decide how you feel about the courses.

BikeSafe is essentially a taster for a longer IAM or RoSPA course which will teach much the same thing, so "both".

IAM's is good but you'll need to be up to speed.
I'd say more of a good rider check up for experienced riders.
I work most days my local group ride so I've only been out with them for a "looksie" a couple of times.
Don't rush, get some more experience first, by all means find your local group & go along for the experience.
The guys who have passed go for a ride out, the guys going for the test have a one to one & It'll be worth tagging along with them.

Entirely depends on the local group. The sooner after you pass, the more beneficial it should be. My local IAM and RoSPA both make a point of being new-licensee friendly.
