Going to look at a 2000 model this week end, whats your views on this bike, are there any niggles I should be aware of, what they like on juice and to ride? my use is mainly commuting and twice a year a long haul of 270 miles. have heard the lights are crap but is this just a case of putting better bulbs in? Was not thinking of changing my divvy yet but I've got the chance of this at a reasonable price so thought I'd take a look.

Carb rubbers split on a boringly regular basis.

I have the '98 model. Just done the simple light mod (https://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,181.0.html) and also stuck in some Philips X-Treme bulbs and feck me I can see the road at night now!

My view is they do the job, reliable, gearbox is a bit agricultural, gets going around 8k revs, carb rubbers do appear to be bit a dodge, callipers they reckon need some care now-n-then but are good stoppers, has centre stand so handy, not too bad an all rounder really.

99 model here,
Lights, as everyone else has said are dire. I have done the cheap & nasty mod of just fucking around with the wiring so both come on at the same time. Rumour has it they have a tendancy to melt wires doing that, mines been OK Laughing

Rear shock was fcuked but I got a 2nd hand something off ebay, its fine now.

I love riding it! Mind you, it cost the missus £195 as an insurance buy back from a friend so I couldn't give a hoot about looking after it and it's never let me down. Great bike!

This Rolling Eyes

I have read stories here...

https://foc-u.co.uk

of front sprockets working loose, but mine was fine, lights are poor as has been said, pretty good all rounder, it was my first "big" bike and I loved it,
It will seem faster than the diversion... you'll love it Mr. Green Thumbs Up

oh....good bit of room under the seat, and you get a fuel gauge Laughing

Luck of the draw I'd say, my 400 shares near enough the same rubbers which are going on 18 years old, outside looks iffy but they are still good and tight.

Only you know the answer to that Rolling Eyes Laughing

seriously... according to https://foc-u.co.uk the cracking is a common thing...but it takes forever for the cracks to get through, mine looked pretty bad but were fine, but I guess common sense tells us they will eventually fail Thumbs Up

My father in law had one, i rode it a few times and was quite impressed.

Fazers are one of those bikes that i would consider buying if i wanted a quick-ish do it all bike.
Thumbs Up

Girlfriend's dad has the 02 one if I remember correctly... thundercat engine? He loves it and goes touring on it occasionally, doesn't have a bad word to say about it and mentioned it to me as something to look at since I'm in the market for a new bike again at the minute! I get the impression they're very good bikes.

It won't just SEEM faster than a Diversion, it'll be like someone just fitted another engine. I owned both at the same tme the year before last. The Fazer's 16 valve engine is a lot more pokey.

Splitting carb rubbers is nothing new. Lots of bikes suffered it, they start at the surface and work their way though slowly. Takes a heck of a long time though. Personally I put it down to UV degradation.

Thundercat-derived engine. Similar but not the same. They even have different blocks, as the Fazer one has faux cooling fins and is dressed since it is on view. Same brakes though, which are awesome if kept clean.

I once rode a friend's FZS600 back-to-back with my 'Cat and was very impressed.

Well went to see it and it wasn't in as good a nick as I was led to belive, forks were quite pitted, brakes were binding slightly, had a badly repaired crack in the fairing which vibrated like a bugger when I test rode it, rear tyre was at legal limit I thought and chain and sprockets didn't have long left, so although its all easily sorted, for the price he wanted and what it needed spending on I decided to leave it. I do like the fazer though after test riding it, pokey, comfy definitely quicker than my Divvy but I'm sure there are better condition one's out there for the money and as I'm in no rush will just keep my eyes peeled.

Thanks for the comments peeps.
