5 year from date of conviction.

So, if your date on your license is 1st June 2007, then 1st June 2012 you don't have to declare.

Does Google only work in certain parts of the country/planet?

Not quite right. If you get a fixed penalty, you never get convicted, so its 5 years from the date of the offence.

But let's also be clear, you must answer the question the insurance broker asks you. They are trying to build a risk profile for you and will ask you questions to which an honest answer is expected. Doesn't matter if the points are still on your licence or not, they just want to know what you've been up to over whatever period of time they see fit. They might ask "have you had any penalties or convictions over the last 32 years" and if you have, you must say "yes", even if it was 31 years ago. If you don't like it, find another insurer.

I think that is wrong.
The declaration of points is governed by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.
This is so people will not be unfairly prejudiced by passed offences.
The rules vary but you are not legally required to divulge this to anyone if the act deems you don't have to.
It changes but generally driving is five years.

You are correct in saying you have to answer honestly as if you are caught out you will probably be blackballed.

The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act does apply, and the insurance ombudsman said that insurers could ask about spent convictions if they liked, but they'd have to disregard the answer.

(from an old post)

Quote:
[..]By way of analogy, there seems no reason why a rehabilitated drink-driver, if he had evidence, would not have an equally strong case if he was refused insurance or was given less favourable terms and conditions than other policyholders, simply because of his spent conviction. If firms insist on asking questions about spent convictions, then they must effectively ignore the answers they receive. Otherwise, we are likely to consider they have breached their statutory duty.

Similarly, if a firm cancels the policy of a customer who has a spent conviction (but whose licence is still endorsed), simply because the customer did not disclose the endorsement, then we will uphold the customer’s complaint.

OK, fair enough, but if they ask, you have to answer and the onus is on them to use the information appropriately.

Or find a different insurer!

5 years for minor, 11 for serious (eg DD10)

however most insurance companies use a computer progrqmme to generate prices, which will disregard out of date convictions.
