Don't think there is such a thing as "winter" tyres... Plenty of sports touring rubber available that is good in the wet though.

What sizes does the bike take?

Bridgestone BT45's, excellent in all weather conditions, just take a look at the reviews Smile
Mike.

Fit the tyre recommended by the manufacturer.

They test more tyres than anyone on any forum so should know what fits there bike best.

I have fucked about with tyres on several bikes and now just stick to wot the OEM fit. Some provide great grip but last about three months until worn down some provide fuck all grip unless on the side stand but last for years.
You need to find a compromise and the OEM knows from trials.

Unless you can't afford the OEM of course then you buy wot you can afford.

If you can afford to fit a tyre just for winter look at the sport touring as said.
I liked the grip from the Continental trail attacks on my R1200GS but they lasted about three months.

BTW Although the law says 1mm minimum tread for motorbikes, tyres start losing grip well before that limit. I would say at about 15% wear left (from new) the grip is noticeably reduced.

For winter roads you need to adjust riding style/attitude more than tyre compound.

That is seriously out of date. It lists the BT-014 and BT-020 as well as the first Michelin Pilot Road and Dunlop D207!

BT-014 has since been superceded by the BT-016 and BT-016 Pro
BT-020 has been superceded by the BT-021 and now the BT-023
Pilot Road -> Pilot Road 2 -> Pilot Road 3 (Bike magazine got knee down in an inch of standing water on track with these!)
etc.

I cant remember off the top of my head what sizes the TZR takes, but i would reccomend Bridgestone BT45's or Pirelli Sport Demon.

These will be good in all conditions, wear well and not cost the earth.
Thumbs Up

I don't take it that seriously but if you know nothing it is a start. Smile
And bike mags and the dopey cnuts who write for them are out of touch too. I have not bought one of them for years. How the hell can they justify the prices for a bike comic? Smile

That does rather depend on the age of the bike. i.e a 15 year old sports tourer will be significantly under rubbered if you kept using the OEM fit tyres the whole time. Modern sports touring tyres are fantastic, seems very silly not to take advantage of that.

It also assumes the original tyres are the same as the aftermarket tyres of the same model. I.e. dunlop are pretty famous for having the OEM tyres on bikes a pile of shite whilst what you buy in the shops with the same name is pretty good.

I agree with OEM fit brake pads, discs, air filters, spark plugs etc etc, but not OEM fit tyres - the technology improves rapidly and SHOULD be taken advantage of.

So by your recommendation I should be using Michelin "April Fool" AM59X's on my GSXR then?

Go take your face for a shit.

Thanks.

You are still such a potato boy.

You use what ever tyre you want flower.
Your GSXR will be just a quick/slow with you on it whether shod with cross-ply, radial or even solid rubber pram wheels.

Razz
