Mod 2 tomorrow not a perfect lesson today

I was really confident for my test tomorrow until I had my lesson today...

I was too busy doing my obs to see the 20mph sign - fail
I messed up my road position on a left turn, in to right turn (I call them a z turn) - fail
I assumed a change in speed when coming to a main carage way - fail
I didn't exaggerate some of my life savers when turning or moving off / fail

So I'm hoping I can be relaxed and happy tomorrow,

Shitting a brick!!

Just relax. Don't immediately think you have failed either on the test - if your ride is good and safe, the examiner will use discretion and let some things pass.

Although speeding is really one of them.

Just remember if the road has streetlights - it's 30 unless otherwise stated and if it doesn't its NSL unless otherwise stated.

Just remember, you cant fail your test on a practice run. Get a good nights sleep and try to arrive at your test as relaxed as possible. Good luck.

If the 20 was on a practice test route, remember that going too slow is a minor fault, but going too fast is a fail.

I picked up two minors on my Mod 2 because the signs for the 20 zones around Banbury are useless. If I'd been riding normally I would have done 30, but on the test, that would have been a fail.

another bit of advice would be to keep an eye on your examiner. If he is miles behind you, think why? Probably because the speed limit has changed, examiners wont break the law to stay with you.

a shit final lesson usually suggests you'll have a good test.

You've done nothing on your lesson that's unusual, at least you've picked up on it, I'm pretty sure most people would be on here complaining that they feel harshly treated.

It should rain heavily tomorrow which is a good sign on your mod 2. You'll find everyone slows down so things will happen a lot more slowly, allowing you more time to make decisions. You've got to alter you riding to suit prevailing conditions. If its lashing it down, you've got to progress more carefully....

Just make sure your gear is watertight so you can concentrate on your riding, not that fact it feels like you've wet yourself........

I'm doing it at Gateshead mptc, can I ask a silly question;

When I pull put of the parking bays to the dotted give way line, do I need to indicate left to head towards the exit? Even though I'm still in a car park??

Feeling iffy on your last lesson is deffo a good thing....
...the lesson before my first mod 2, i felt really confident...then failed

Riding before the most recent one, i thought it wasn't great, couple of problems, but i finished the test with no minors, a pretty piece of paper and a huge smile

It's either that logic, or "third time lucky" that did the trick

Good luck mate! I hadn't been on a bike for 4 weeks before my mod 2 and I only got 1 minor. I found it was good to relax your grip on those bars, keep things smooth.

A few other things:

- Don't accelerate hard to 30 unless its completely needed, it's not a race to the speed limit. As long as the examiner can see you smoothly and safely reaching the limit there is no problem.

- If you don't have a full view of your rear when moving off (e.g examiners bike in way, parked vehicles etc) don't panic about being done for hesitiation, I failed my first mod 2 because of something like this.

- Do both shoulders when moving off

- Make sure to move your helmet slightly when checking mirrors

- Don't stare at the speedo, mirrors or at the car in front.

- Ride for yourself, do not, for example, slow down if an examiner has stopped to give way at a roundabout while you had a gap.

- On roundabouts with marked lanes, make sure you are not indicating wrongly, if the lane is going straight ahead, third exit and you have a right indicator on approach and on the roundabout and the exit in the third exit you will fail. A guy failed for this before me.

- If you accidently put your indicator on, FOLLOW IT! if your going straight ahead and you indicate right by accident go for the exit your telling other road users your going to, you won't fail for going the wrong way.

Only 1 minor, on the very first junction leaving the test centre, a car was speeding so I waited... Other than that, clean sheet!!
