I think I need to upgrade the ram on the Pc, it's currently 4gb which I think is fine but have the problem of it getting pretty much maxed out when playing bf3 .
So is there anything anyone can reccomend I can do to make it run more efficient or will it be better to just upgrade the ram as its not all that expensive.
I was thinking of 2 of these to make it 8 gb
https://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/kingston-hyperx-genesis-ddr3-pc-memory-4gb-dimm-ram-10849447-pdt.html

Any recommendations?

Yes, tell us if the OS is 32-bit or 64-bit to start with. If it's 32-bit the extra RAM will make no difference at all.

Might also want to mention what mobo you have as you may not even be able to use faster/more ram.

will also depend on your current memory speed
if thats slower than your current memory it may pull the speed down to the lower setting
a lot depends on the rest of your system (graphic's card and processor etc) as to whether
a memory upgrade will work as Hertzer and whitedevil said

list up your spec's for better advice

BF3 is a console game and therefore shouldn't require much ram to run. It says 4GB recommended 2GB minimum.
So do you know for a fact that it's the RAM that's slowing you down or have you just heard that when a computer isn't fast enough that means it needs more RAM?

I'm willing to bet you have plenty of RAM but your graphics card can't handle it.

this is true almost all people outside of IT or computer literate when it comes to hardware
normally say they need more memory when their computer runs slow
when 9 times out of 10
its more likely a bloated system with loads of crap and app's running in the background
or their graphics card or other hardware issues

4GB is a decent chunk of memory to run any game, as your graphics should handle most of the
heavy shit that ties up resources in that department

Yup i've known people put more RAM into a PC that's already got far more than they can use. My former landlady upgraded her PC from 4GB to 8GB even though she was running 32bit XP. She had so much shit in her system tray and so much spyware and browser toolbars and stuff it was hilarious!

and she probably thought. "yeah, this extra RAM is what this pc needed, good upgrade"

4GB recommended means 2GB for the game and 2GB for anything else, including the OS. I know of no game that uses more than 2GB of RAM, not even those with 64-bit exes. I'm sure some exist though, just not heard of them (or I've forgotten).

Most modern games tend to be designed for consoles, where they have to run on 256 or 512mb of RAM. Sure when they port it to PC they can crank the settings and stuff up a bit, but they won't be using like 16x the amount of ram just for the game.
Stuff designed specifically for PC might eat through a bit more, but RAM is so cheap these days that people have enough to multi task and do things like video editing.

sorry for the lack of info, i wasnt sure what would be needed.

i3 -2120 @3.30 ghz
windows 7 64-bit
4gb memory
500gb hd with external 1tb drive
radeon hd6770

graphics card runs bf3 perfectly fine on ultra but i tend to just have it on high settings.
pc is only really a month old and havnt put anything on it yet so theres not really anything running in background.

the thing that tells me my ram is running high is a windows widget thing that site in top corner of pc and shows cpu usage and ram usage and when games running it shows at around 89%, would that be acceptable?

cheers

89%? You don't need more RAM.

I have 4GB GDDR RAM on my graphics card, so it can handle pretty much anything you throw at it. I admit I have 16GB of DDR3 1600mhz of RAM as well though. Mostly for 'future proofing' and I like to render the odd 3D landscape in Bryce or Cinema 4D from time to time.

To be fair, BF3 is one of the most demanding games out for the PC at the moment.

What sort of FPS are you getting on BF3 with your rig on ultra settings?

On ultra I get 40-50 fps and high 50 -60, could it just be that my current memory isn't fast enough? Is there anyway I can check the speed on it?

With a 4GB stick of DDR3 1600 (Even if your running 1333, it'l under-clock to match) cost £15 https://www.ebuyer.com/309518-crucial-4gb-ddr3-1600-mt-s-pc3-12800-cl11-unbuffered-udimm-240pin-1-35v-1-5v-ct51264bd160b There's not much to loose really...
When I upgraded from 4GB to 8GB, I DID see a performance increase. Not necessarily because the game is using more of the RAM, but everything else has more to eat - More head Room for processes!

BF3 Isn't exactly a console port - I believe the framework was created as a 'universal body' and developed on each system. The rest of your rig looks fine, I think the biggest thing that will get you a performance increase (for gaming especially) Is a better CPU. I think your's is a dual core, and there are plenty of people who have upgraded from a dual to a quad and have seen 20+ FPS increase in BF3.
