pls help me out with some info here

Hi

I got dad's old motorcycle when he died and don't know anything about them! It's been 3 years now since i bothered doing anything but I have to get rid of it now!

this picture shows the motorcycle:

and these are the keys i collected:

I got all the keys right? The idea now is to sell it for spare parts seeing how complicated and expensive it would be to register it here in Sweden where I and the motorbike is. Upon his death it was still registered on him in the UK

I know it's a Honda Goldwing but I can't remember the year.

Ride it, maybe? Its such a lovely bike - seems a waste to sell it for spares... Can it really be that complicated to register a bike over there?

hmm what is the question??
your going to break a bike ? well done list parts on ebay
have you got att the keys? is that a joke? normally only 2 keys so yes you have lots of spares?

tell you what as its so complecated ill give you £100 and ill ride it back to the uk lol

Deal! it's in Kristdala just outside of Oskarshamn, it's ericssons taxi.
when will you pick it up? feels so nice to finally get rid of it!i have no use for it, no drivers license.

Bottom middle set of keys is for a mini (or old skool British Leyland car)...

Left-right
Volkswagen- Aircooled around the 70s
Ford- It has a Ford keyring
Goldwing keys- See above
Land Rover- door keys
Land Rover- Ignition key, and maybe door keys
Honda- Ignition key from bike
Bottom left, no idea, padlock?

what happend is if the guy is for real i just bought next years tour..lol
ide buy it do as little as possable to make it ridable for the 1000mile trip back then sell it as cheap as i could but still covering the cost of the trip so free tour..lol

I don't know much about Goldwings. However a brief look around suggests that is a pretty early one. Wire wheels were used for the first few years, switching to comstar alloy wheels in 1978. Looks like it is at least 34 years old.

Also looks to be in pretty good condition (although I appreciate that photo might be a few years old).

If you say registering it would be expensive in Sweden then I would suggest that the easiest thing would be to find a UK relative to ship it to and then sell it in the UK.

It seems a shame to break for spare parts something that has survived so long and is in decent condition. Not sure how experienced you are with spanners but it could be a fair amount of work. Also fairly certain that if you did break it for spares you would be left with quite a lot of bits that would either never sell or would take ages to sell.

How do you plan on getting an MOT in order to tax + insure it? Although if you can work out this stuff you are in for a good tour.

im a trader so i have to pay a little extra to be covered in europe for 3 days so insurece isnt an issue , not sure if i can use trade plates in europe to cover tax and mot if not ill just get there type of mot and tax it online if i can if not push my luck and book it in for an mot worse that will happen is a fine

i could go collect it in my van but theres no fun in that and i would only be doing it for the fun of it

I would ask there, and see if an existing Wing-Dinger a) Knew your Dad, b) would do the right thing by you and the bike.

I love the early wire wheel 'naked' GL's.

I'm not so certain that one is definitely an early GL, and not a de-fairing'd Gold-Wing... but it has been in service in recent years.

The non original bars and custom risers, suggest its been accessoriesed in the last ten years, more likely the last five, as do some of the after-market 'retro' accessories like small lense indies... pointing to notion it could be an Aspenade, some-one has stripped to GL spec after a drop, maybe....

HOWEVER, it is a nice and classic bike, it is also a cult bike with a strong following of enthusiasts, and is worth saving from being broken.

However it is probably NOT worth a fortune; thousands were made in the USA, where most remained, a lot dribbling to the rest of the world, if not brand new through official Honda importers, then bought 'Cheap' in the USA second hand and exported wherever as a 'Private' or 'grey' import.

The only 'niggle' with that one is it has a UK registration number on it, for which you don't have UK registration document, and the bike is in another country!

If the bike is legit, then Gold-Wing owners, can probably help sort you out.

A trusted memeber of the Gold-Wing club, I am sure, if the bike's legit would happily do UK registration searches on your behalf, to check its providence, and possibly even apply for a new UK registration document as the bike's UK Keeper, which would enable you to get the bike registered in Sweeden, probably also provide a letter of valuation, for Sweedish Taxes, OR allow the bike to be sold, with providence for some-one else to do so.

BUT: here in the UK, the bike is probably only worth around £1 to 2000 - , if taxed tested and MOT'd ready to ride away. It is NOT a concourse standard classic example a collector would pay big money for. Sold as a non road-ready 'runner' likely not to fetch even bottom of my estimate, and without propper providence & documents, it IS essentiually worthless.

But, contact the Wing-Dingers, and see what they can do.

Breaking for spares, if you aren't a biker, and you dont really know what you have got? Well, you can auction the bits off on e-bay, and get some money for them, but you are not likely to get best prices, as you wont know how to best describe the bits, or what they are really worth, and as like as not you will be shipping to overseas buyers.....

Lots of people think breaking bikes is easy and a great way to make money; but unfortunately, even if you know what you have got, you will only get 'good' money for a few headline and desirable bits, are likely to be left with a lot of stuff no-one wants, AND it is NOT easy stripping a bike without damaging potentialy valuable parts, and it IS a lot of effort and hassle dealing with e-bidders and carriers.

For example; the engine is a nice neat 'chunk' with a potentially high sales value..... but, its too heavy for a common carrier to take as a parcel. I've driven half the length of britain to pick up engines or whole bikes, I cant see many people wanting to travel as far as Sweeden! (though there are nutters I guess who might!)
