Hi all

Looking to get the girlfriend a iPod car radio transmitter, which you can change the frequency and play it through your radio and charge at the same time?

There's many out there, Griffin pops up alot.

Seen some for under £10 then some for around £50.

Not sure on quality of music etc even if they work.

Anyone had experience with these or could recommend one?

Cheers

Jeff

if its a new - ish car check with the dealer for official kits. mazda do a kit for - wait for it - 29 quid. plugs into the cd changer socket and fully controllable through the stereo Cool

fm transmitters are wank, they get droened out by even the weakest interfering signal. this doesnt varyb from the cheap to expensive either. in a pervious car i had one from tescos mate had a posh one. parking the cars on the dive neither could pick up the others signal. Thumbs Down

(yes i know its only to your own car but seriously, the metal in the roof will block the signal).

I bought an fm transmitter a few years back, I used it for a couple of weeks and then abandoned it. I had to regularly retune the radio and my signal would often be droned out by something else. If you can actually plug your mp3 player in to your radio through a wire then do that.

griffin itrip ftw.

but you cant beat a wired connection, trouble with fm transmitters is you WILL get interference from other stations, especially when travelling a lot as they come into range and out again

Cheers Paddy, didn't think of that, so ordered her a cable. Will be a weird thing for her to open as a present so may just give it to her lol.

Or hide the rest of the presents and say money has been tight this year.

Bit late to the party, but I've just splashed out all of £9.99 on this no-name 4GB mp3 player.

I was prepared to be disappointed but it works fine, sound quality is decent, and as a surprise bonus, it's got a built-in FM transmitter that works at least as well as the dedicated one that I was using. It's so cheap that I might even buy a couple more just to leave in cars.

as promised heres my feedback.

unit is quite compact and the wire is exactly the right length for me aux port, but an extension is included.

pairing was painless, plug device in, press power button, turn bluetooth on on iPhone, pair, enter passcode, 0000. done.

play music, music comes out of speakers.

not tested range but it worked in my pocket without problem.

the remote is tiny, and it works, which i was surprised at as people were saying that it didn't, i could skip tracks, pause and play. not tried a phonecall yet though.

leaving the car or turning the ignition off cuts the power to the device, to reconnect you need to press play once possibly twice, once to power one, once to play, might hardwire it but i doubt it would fix the problem as iPhone pause if headphones are disconnected (i am sure there is logic behind this but i find it f'ing annoying)

all in all, my 30min test whilst i ate mc dees it is spot on.
