After finding out just how bad my boots are at keeping water out I am in the market for some nice new waterproof boots.

After a quick look I have come up with two that I like, the TCX Five plus Gore-Tex or the Sidi black rain's

If anyone owns either pair and could let me know what they are like, or suggest another pair it would be really useful (Those Sidi's are the highest I would like to pay really)

Currently using tcx infinity boots, bit more clunky than the x-5 and sidi.
Happy with them..warm and dry so far.

You'd expect the x-5 to be just as good for keeping you warm and dry like the infinity.

I was using a cheap pair of touring boots, £7 off Eba.y, recently switched to some other touring boots £15 including (p+P) hardly worn.
After searching for the make found out they were these Falco 480 Raid Boots image below. Managed to go through extremely bad rain 2 months ago and didn't let any rain in and left me warm no negatives at all.

Review on the boots (note price when new $230 or £147 roughly.)

Sidi black rains wore through the toe on one boot (and several other people have said the same happened to them. Check out how little protection the thin, tucked back, sole gives the toe box.). The hole didn't cause leaking, but it did mean when both boots went porous all over at the same time, just under a year after I bought them, Sidi wouldn't consider a warrenty replacement.

Got a cheap pair of "waterproof" boots... RST?? can't remember... they aren't waterproof but they were cheap so have kept them as backup.

I bought some A* Scouts next and they lasted nearly a year too before starting to leak. Accepted for a warranty exchange this time.

So I've bought GoreTex (which I should have done in the first place, but.... buy cheap, buy twice. Or 3 or 4 times) A*s and I know at least if they start leaking any time before the boot is falling apart I'll get them replaced.

Moral: if the budget will stretch to GoreTex boots, buy them.

Would like to keep them fairly slim and not too sporty, which is why I am swaying towards the Sidi's was just curious if they are worth the money or not. Then again I'm sure the TCX's will do as good (if not better with the Gore-Tex) of a job for £30 less. Think I am going to have to go and look around some bike shops and try some things on to make my mind up.

Oh after a quick look I can get the Sidi's with 15% off and a free pair of richa gloves, looks like I might go for those then Thumbs Up

EDIT: or not if thats so, maybe just go for the TCX instead...

Talking about A* build quality, I have decided to never buy anything off them. I've owned a few pairs of gloves from them and have all fallen apart after not that much use, useless company!

Recently bought the TCX X-Five Plus Gore-Tex boots for £135 and been happy so far. Cant beat Gore-Tex for winter protection and TCX seem pretty good reviews all round really so win win, and this new model has better protection than last years. Quality is good, fits nice and comfortable if a little stiff (bit like meself really lol). Not a sporty boot but so what. Got mine from GhostBikes too, whilst 1st time round they sent me the wrong boots after one simple fone call they 24 hour despatched the correct boots and refunded my original next day postage option, so furry muff on that one. For the price I dont think you'll be disappointed.

Me as well. Got some "Bought wrong size" off ebay last year. Been very happy with them and would buy again even at closer to full price.

reason they are letting in water is because the sole has snapped and made a hole in the bottom of the boot, they were only a cheap pair so not to bothered about throwing them out.

You lot have made this decision very hard, going to go and see if I can find either boots in my local bike shops and see if that, can make my mind up.
