Just wondering, having recently taken up 'proper' riding, most people seem to suggest that its only a matter of time until the first off.
I'm just wondering why this is? I've been riding a Vespa for the last 7 years or so and have never had an incident. I'd like to think this is down to my skillful riding ( ) but realistically its probably down to the fact that a) I used it for commuting, on mainly 30mph roads and b) the top speed was probably about 45mph. Obviously all bikes will easily exceed this limited performance.
So my question is, how long has it been since you last had (or ever had) a spill? ____________________ 2005 Honda Varadero 125xl > 2005 GS500F > 2007 DRZ400 SM > 600 Bandit & Yamaha YP250 |

1992, around October or November. But given my annual mileage varies greatly, it's probably more accurate to ask how many miles ago. And I can't be arsed to work that one out ____________________ Chances are quite high you are not in my Monkeysphere, and I don't care about you. Don't take it personally.

September. 2009.
Proper spill. Shoulder still aches.
However had a small spill a few months after it, going to my Mod 1, all the ice was left after the snow. Dad was behind, both just went down instantly... Was only 30MPH or so. Took off my indicator. Still went to the test though. ____________________ "Let's face it, this is not the worst thing you've caught me doing."

*Touch wood*
Never have.
Came off when a pillion in 1996 when a car turned across our path and then stopped, blocking our side of the road but just a few bruises and a bit of whiplash to me. Done a couple of sideways drops whilst at a standstill due to having stupidly short legs causing stiffness to me and the odd broken mirror or indicator and some scuffed bar-ends but never had a collision or an off while riding.
That's in 10.5 years on the road on two wheels as a rider btw.
Just hope I've not jinxed myself now lol! ____________________ Sod falling in love, I wanna fall in chocolate. |

Last one was 10th October 1973!!! (the old mans birthday so I remember ) skidded a Suzuki T500 into the back of a parked Transit Dark and raining but I should really have noticed something that size
Had a good innings as it's only fairly recently I started to suffer now with arthritis in the knee I knackered at the time. ____________________ I used to be indecisive but now I'm not quite so sure. |

Last year I stacked it on a black ice covered roundabout. Cars were crashing too so it's not just a problem for bikes. Other than that, no issues.

1988, rounding a bend, unlit road, 6v lights and suddenly a lorry load of sand .
Bike not surprisingly stopped a bit sharpish and then followed me over the top of the sand writing it off on landing and flipping a couple of times.
Only other kind of off was doing donuts in a car park and it suddenly gripped and threw me off. Does behaving like a dick count as an off?
I've been hugely lucky, has a few very close moments at some silly speeds but so far managed somehow to stay alive despite doing rather a lot of miles ____________________ Nobby the Bastard: How yo tell the difference between the actual japanese and her just screaming because she's had live fish stuck up her arse? First one in 2005, diesel/oil and and a cager not paying attention. Lost the front and down I went, only about 15mph. Cracked fairing, bruised hip nothing serious.
Last one month before last, getting ready to do my DAS I went over on the training schools 125 It rained for literally the entire day (very heavy) and damn those SR wheels are thin Again, bruised hip, bent mirror - nothing serious. ____________________ 'Allo! 5 days ago - lost the front on some diesel going in a straight line doing 40 on a NSL dual carriageway. Felt like a puncture on the front as it started to wobble, then become a tank slapper. Walked away with a sore left arm, very small graze just below my elbow.
Was achey for a few days, 99% better now. Just finished repairing the bike enough to get it rideable again and took it for a spin round the block - quite an emotional experience. Am anxious about the commute on Monday. Has cost about £70 in parts so far, probably another £70 to replace the cosmetic/non-essentials. Not bad considering the nature of the crash... |

Around 10 or 12 years ago, having managed to avoid a head on, with a car which was on the wrong side of the road, I locked the front wheel on leaves in the gutter and fell off. Broke and dislocated my shoulder at 0mph, damned gravity!
Prior to that, I had a high speed get off, between 70 & 80mph, surprisingly little damage to me or the bike.
Back in 1979, a few days before my test, I got nerfed off my 125, the fuktard in the car didn't stop, minor injuries to me, a few scratches and a mangled indicator on the bike.
Err that's it, as long as you don't count burning my arm on the exhaust of the Gas Gas last month. ____________________ "Everybody needs money, that's why they call it money!" |

Five years ago, on the Isle of Man. Coming back from Creg ny Ba on the back road, my speed into the corner skilfully outwitted my ability to get round it. So I "laid it down". Well that's what I told everybody later

Anyones next off could be at anytime especially this time of year.
If you don't include dropping it or other low speed nonsense then my last crash on a bike was 1988, smashed into a Fiat 126 of all things that was turning right, totally my fault. For those who remember those little Fiats, I wreckon I pushed it down the road a bit with my kneecap.
On a rideout recently with a couple of old guys who have ridden forever their last offs were 50 and 30 years ago so its not a given you're gonna crash ____________________ Current Bike: 2004 Suzuki Bandit 600S

I've been riding about three years, more of a hobby for the first part then turned to riding full time about six months ago when I passed my full test.
Had many close encounters in the last six months, mainly due to cagers in London. I've been lucky thus far, hopefully that will continue. ____________________ "unbelievable"
