My TV in my livingroom has a USB port which allows me to plug in a USB stick (or harddrive) into it and can watch movies straight off the device - which basically makes my DVD player redundant.

However I was looking for a way of doing the same with my TV in the bedroom. It does not have a USB port; but I was wondering if you could get something like a SCART > USB cable or similar.

I have searched the internet and all I can seem to find is something like this:

https://www.cables-leads.co.uk/scart-to-usb-2-0-video-capture-kit

https://www.cables-leads.co.uk/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/5e06319eda06f020e43594a9c230972d/s/c/scart-to-usb-kit-montage.jpg

https://www.cables-leads.co.uk/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/5e06319eda06f020e43594a9c230972d/u/s/usb-video-capture-cable.jpg

Which is not really what I am looking for....

The connection would need to have a female USB port on it to allow you to put a USB stick into it.

Cannot seem to find anything like this anywhere, so I was wondering if this has been invented yet, and if not, then feel free to take my idea to Dragon's Den and use it yourself, as long as I get 1 free product once the devices are rolling off the production line.

Cheers. Wink

You want a USB media player, you do.

I don't think it's a matter of a simple lead, USB carries digital info and SCART carries analogue so there would need to be some sort of circuitry in the middle to convert between them. Could be expensive.

I don't know of a nice cheap solution, but I have an HD Ryan Playon box for that sort of thing. Hard drive media player, I paid about £100 for mine. Incredible bit of kit, outputs over HDMI.

Far better than trying to play from an Xbox over the network using windows media player (slow), or play from a PC (lack of decent remote control, some kind of updates will pop up during a movie).

The ultimate for me would be to have a networked hard drive for backup, that was also a media player. I believe such a thing exists, but for the price its worth just getting another PC to handle the same tasks and do more.

What I really want is a PC/TV combination that actually gives me a decent picture when using the TV as a monitor, I can never get a decent resolution and decent colour doing this.

Not sure about the xbox issues you had, but I run one of these D-Link 320 through my PS3. It's got a built in uPNP AV (does torrents/ftp etc. etc.) streamer, been decently effective, just shows up in the crossbar Smile I assume it'd go through an Xbox OK. Only £60 on Amazon too Smile

I run a HDMI cable between my laptop and TV.
Porn in HD on a 48" LCD, with sound through the surround system is really quite something.

If the TV doesn't have the codecs programmed in it's unlikely it'd be able to read anything from the USB device anyway. Like most TVs that do actually have a USB port (Sony and Panasonic to name two).

You would be correct. Embarassed
But I must stress that it is only 2 months since my last "girlfriend", and we're still pretty friendly... So i'm not the depraved, early 20's forum lurker that you may think Razz
