Is it just me or have they gone up stupidly?
I was looking at some bikes (you know the ones you could never afford but still look at) example would be an MV F4 750 which I'm sure were around 3.5-4k last year and now you can't get them for less than 5.5k. Another example is 916/996 series bikes which are more than 4k, you can get a 999 for that much!!
Even the likes of Hornets, GSXR's etc have shot up ____________________ Bikes : 2006 CBR125R - 2004 Monster 620ie - 2004 ZX-6R B1H - 2005 Monster S2R 800 - 2011 Street Triple - 2009 Streetfighter 1098 - 2014 ZX-6R 636

New prices are up, sales are down, the number of licensees is still rising, and Nardo is taking truckloads of (still relatively) cheap bikes back to Elbonia with him - it doesn't seem that difficult to see which way used prices are going. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

What Roger said.
With new prices rising and more people buying used bikes anyway, the prices are set to at least stay static until March/April when they'll jump up again. ____________________ My Flickr |

Until someone shows me well research evidence that bike prices drop significantly in the winter, I will continue to view it as a popular myth.
I don't believe anyone has ever done a study on the matter, and at the moment just looking around, i can see models selling at more, the same and less than they were in the summer.
In fact, forget winter prices. Has there ever been any research conducted into the used bike market full stop? ____________________ Motorcycle headlight bulbs and HIDs

Purely anecdotally, I didn't see prices drop last winter, just fewer bikes for sale. The local dealers didn't drop their prices, or even seem interested in about selling anything.
The caveat is that I was looking at the old, cheap commuter end of the market, where half the bikes were marketed as "ideal winter hacks" anyway.
It may be very different in the sunny-Sunday-never-seen-rain-hero-machine sector. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

I don't think prices drop as such in winter it's just there are more for sale meaning more people competing against each other ____________________ Bikes : 2006 CBR125R - 2004 Monster 620ie - 2004 ZX-6R B1H - 2005 Monster S2R 800 - 2011 Street Triple - 2009 Streetfighter 1098 - 2014 ZX-6R 636

i've been buying and selling bikes quite frequently over the last few years and there was definately a significant drop last winter and the one before it, but i agree this year they seem to be going up not down.
I bought my old 600rr in summer 2008 for £3400, which at the time was about the average price for one. I sold the bike last year with an extra 20k miles on it which put it up to 35k which is a lot of miles for any sports 600, but i still managed to sell it for £3300 without any service history within a few hours of putting it up on ebay, as at £3300 it was one of the cheapest so prices in general are definately going up ____________________ 04 NSR 125(sold) ---- 03 CBR 600rr(sold) ----90 pan euro ST1100 ' ' ----02 CG 125

I was looking for a winter/project bike and found that there were many for sale at the end of the summer, even during the good weather we had in September and October, can't say if they were cheap but lots for sale should make it a buyers market.
As the crap weather set in around November I actually found less bikes for sale.
Still managed to pick up an old CBR 600 tax and mot until May for £635. Runs okay with good brakes and tyres. Needed new indicators, bit of super glue and new bolts for the fairing and exhaust, changed oil and filter, topped up other fluids.
Went out on it today and feel I have a bargain. Was looking for about 3 months though and did see some lemons. So take your time to find what you want ____________________ Current Bike: 2004 Suzuki Bandit 600S

That's a pretty good price especially for the USD fork model!
From the bikes I've been looking at, some have gone up stupidly like Ducati Monsters and others have stayed about the same like SV1000's and 749/999's.
Overall they have gone up but some more than others. I think after Christmas will be the time to buy! ____________________ Bikes : 2006 CBR125R - 2004 Monster 620ie - 2004 ZX-6R B1H - 2005 Monster S2R 800 - 2011 Street Triple - 2009 Streetfighter 1098 - 2014 ZX-6R 636

I had stupid offers when mine was up for sale, offers of like 1k less than the asking price. In the end I was desperate and sold it pretty cheap but not that cheap! ____________________ Bikes : 2006 CBR125R - 2004 Monster 620ie - 2004 ZX-6R B1H - 2005 Monster S2R 800 - 2011 Street Triple - 2009 Streetfighter 1098 - 2014 ZX-6R 636

I agree with Torx.
While private sale prices have rocketed. Dealer prices on bikes older than 5 years have fallen.
They are still more expensive than the old private sales, but cheaper than they were.
Of course this still pushes bike prices higher. Grrr.
Also what is it with people not listing all the bike's details when selling on ebay. Hell all you have to do is enter the reg number and Ebay fills out everything for you. Yet the number of bikes from dealers that i see that don't list previous owners, or mileage etc.. is shocking. ____________________ Motorcycle headlight bulbs and HIDs
