IAM members, insurance reductions?

I've acquired 6pts on my license over the past few years, both 3point SP50's.
I am not looking forward to next years insurance renewal so I'm thinking of ways to dodge the ass raping, one of the things I'm considering is becoming an IAM member. Anyone on here a member and if so does being IAM member reduce your premium?

Rarely. There appears to be few insurance companies that support the IAM. A better bet is something like the Enhanced Rider Scheme.

Does the Enhanced Rider Scheme offer much in the ways of insurance discounts, or is it another one of those things which are commonly being overlooked by insurers now? Saw somewhere saying about 10%, does that sound about right?

I just found one in my area for £50 thanks to council sponsorship Though it'll have to wait until after I've passed the car test

It does depend on the insurer, some don't recognise the IAM training but with others it carries some weight. I joined the IAM for cars when I was 19, and at that time Admiral would give me £100-£200 off my policy, a big saving at that time.

These days I insure with IAM Surety, who give me hands down the cheapest quote out there, with a load of perks thrown in. So it's been worth its weight in gold to me.

Haven't done my IAM bike test yet though, so can't comment for bikes. Again, you can insure with IAM Surety for bikes, who promise similar deals.

I am IAM certified both car and motorcycle now, it takes about 22% off my bike insurance and 18% off my car insurance, it's not a whole lot but at my age (19) it's definitely a financial saving and you do learn a lot whilst doing it.

I'd recommend doing it at any rate. !
