Right then, I'm 20 and currently own an NSR125 01 model. I am now stuck, my plan was to wait untill May 05 when I turn 21 and do my DAS. However I'm getting urges to do my test now and buy a nice 400 sports (ZXR) or all rounder (bandit). I know I should have a car liscence but it seems such a waste as if I really couldn't use a bike due to conditions it's only a 15 minute walk to work etc... I therefor have two options:

- Keep the NSR untill I'm 21 and get car liscence (not car) now.

- Do my test now and get a "restricted" bike then re-take the test next May.

If I do my car test it is out of the way, if I get a bike I could sneak the NSR in as an autumn sale and buy a nice bike using the cash. I shall either do car test by Christmas but can't afford a car, otherwise do bike test in October and have a more "usable" winter bike.

Hi

Personally when it is that close I would wait until you are 21 (but then I like 125s).

Quite possibly a good idea to get your car test out of the way even if you do not buy a car. For a start most places will not hire you a car until you have had a licence to a year, and also it gets you further along the 2 year limit where 6 points looses you your licence.

All the best

Keith

You can take the accelerated access test if you reach 21 before the restrictions up you know.

If I were you I'd get my test ASAP, and get a nice 33bhp bike Wink.

Lol two contrasting replies. Yes thats what I mean't, that I would do my test now and then do the accelerated access at 21. Might be able to afford both car test and bike just wanted peoples ideas if I had to make a choice between the two. I may have not thought of something which someone will mention.

If I were in the situation you are in, I would continue down the bike route and get the full test done, then you have the license and all the gear. It will be easier to pass the car test once you have learnt some road sense from riding the bike, lessons are expensive so the more confident you are on the road the less you will need Thumbs Up

How close to being 21 are you? If it is a couple of months then I would hang on and do your DAS when you turn 21, but otherwise I would do the restricted access test and then when you reach 21 you're allowed to do something called accelerated access which is to mean if you did your 33bhp test but are now 21 you can do the test and then ride any bike. If it was more than a couple of month I'd would do the restricted test and then the accelerated access test. Thumbs Up

The car license is also a good thing to get, I would get it sorted as soon as you can. The choice of if you do the car test and get a car or do the bike 33bhp test and get a bigger bike is really something which can only be decided by you. They both offer advantages and disadvantages so it is something you just have to decide which would be best for you, but I would guess the full bike license would be more use to you as if a car would be then you would have got a car instead of a bike.
