Where is this going?! And before I get shot down in flames, I am no bleeding heart liberal; I just don’t trust the sociopaths in charge! Especially since current laws are regularly abused as part of policy (see the 15 year old journalist vs police)

Is it me or does it feel like something REALLY big and unpleasant it going to happen in the UK sooner or later?

What's that quote about conditioning the people correctly and they themselves will call for a police state?

On the one hand if someone/ group is endangering life in a situation where the police couldn't prevent it such as large scale riots what are the options?

On the other hand where do you draw that line..

There's a lot of shit going on in the World. As the System begins to crumble and loose control it will get more extreme in its attempts to stay in control. Do we want a country where the police are all armed with live ammunition?. All that would achieve is a gun culture, and could well lead to a kill or be killed culture developing. The whole world as we know it is changing, environmental changes are starting to effect everyone, the global population is exploding and more and more capitalist based economies are fighting for dwindling resources. China has been spending a large portion of its GDP on re-arming itself, the Russians have a smaller force than in the days of the cold war, but some of the shit they have is very impressive and would defeat or at least mortally damage anyone who went against it. For decades we have sat protected from war because of the former US/USSR cold war. Things are going to get really shitty. Soon!.

But that's not what was said.

A legal review stated that the police would be legally justified in shooting rioters who are going to throw a petrol bomb at an occupied home, in order to prevent the occupants being burned alive, or shooting drivers of vehicles trying to run riot police down. This is not something the police have said they are going to do as standard, in fact they said that they have no intention to use firearms except as a last resort as has always been the case.
