Posted: 15:43 - 21 Dec 2011 Post subject: UPDATE - got the private (Which of these 2 street triples?) |
 |
|
Hello there! Well, I passed my mod 1 and 2 yesterday and I'm looking at my first bike. I’ve had a dilemma of head v heart, and well by the title I'm sure you can guess which won. Anyway, after looking around I have come across these 2 bikes and was wondering which you thought would be best to go for and any advice when buying.
1) - Dealer - https://www.metropolismotorcycles.com/used-bikes/details/make-triumph/model-street%20triple/9885/
5500 miles, originally bought from metropolis. It has had 3 owners, who all bought from, then px back to metropolis. FSH. 12 months MOT. 6 months parts and labour. New front tyre. Been to see it, had a good look round, no obvious signs of damage.
EXTRAS – R&G crash protectors / fly screen / engine case covers / Datatool alarm and immobiliser
PRICE - £5100 (originally £5300 with 3 months P&L)
2) – Private - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TRIUMPH-STREET-TRIPLE-2009-MODEL-2026-MILES-BLACK-/200686933174?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item2eb9df94b6
2024 miles. 2 owners. Partial service history (carried out oil filter change himself, has receipts). I have not seen this bike, but will see it tomorrow. Although he has not updated the listing, he has the v5 back with the new registration.
EXTRAS - Custom made carbon underseat exhausts by Trident c/w removable baffles (originals provided), Datatool alarm and immobiliser, Triumph screen, belly pan, genuine Triumph Street Triple R handlebars, asv unbreakable levers in gold, gold top yoke nut, tail tidy, mini indicators and tank protector.
PRICE - £4850 (list)
So, what can I expect to get the dealer down to? Any extras thrown in? Didn’t really push that hard as I wasn’t going to buy today. What about the private, what could/should I get him down to? Talked to him a couple of times but not discussed price.
I live in London but are going back to the NE for Christmas. The dealer is in London and the Private back in the NE. Its an expensive round trip if I don’t take it at the time then decide to go back for it.
Thanks

Unless someone has personal knowledge to the contrary, I wouldn't wipe my arse with a service history, MOT or warranty from any dealer. Reviews aren't too hot either, even by dealer standards.
That said, it's not much more than the private bike, so it may be worth a punt, just don't expect the dealer premium to actually buy you anything. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

I'd prolly offer £4500 on the private one I've recently bought a STriple (also first big bike) I did buy fom a dealer but it was the nicest I had seen, with a nice spec and cheapest I paid £4150 but was older (57). I'd happily buy private though and the one you listed does look pretty good. ____________________ Mod 2 passed 26/10/2011

Tidy, exhausts look a little weird to me seem to sit too low, but to each their own.
PS. Chain looks a little tight. ____________________ My Flickr |
