I got quoted £169 for the service on my GSXR '08 750 from the Suzuki dealership so I would say yeah you are being mugged off as you put it.

Unless they are going to do some major inspection on valves rockers etc Wink

It is expensive, what's in the service? i assume valve clearances will be getting done at that price. for a major service your looking at 300-350

Every 16k is valve inspection and adjustment.

Thats where your price is coming from. I've got the Haynes for this so can let you know what else is done if you need.

£300 -£400 sounds about right for a major service.

£169 sounds like a rip for a minor service considering its just a general look and lube and an oil and filter change. 1.5hrs MAX.

You'll know if they will need doing. Mine haven't been done and its at 36k. Should have been done around 30-32. Little tappy on cold start but when warm is quiet as a mouse.

Basic service is oil and filter, coolant, general check and lube. Can DIY for about £40.

bucket and shim engines normally get quieter/tighter as they wear to the point they burn the valves out.

Screw and locknut engines normally get louder and looser as they wear.

Most modern sportsbikes will be bucket and shim.

GSXRs are buckets, definitely.
Mine is pretty noisy when cold...so I'll just leave it how it is Laughing

Valve clearances on shim under bucket is a pain in the cock. Takes lots of time as the tank, airbox, probably fairings, rocker cover, probably throttle bodies etc etc needs to come off just to check. Time = labour = money.

If they need adjusting then it is cams out, buckets out, shims out then reinstall and recheck. Shims aren't cheap either, from a dealer £3-4 each at a minimum, if they are installing them for you then probably double that.

That was them picking it up taking to their garage and bringing back again. Yes sure I could do it myself for cheaper but it won't keep the service history book stamped and the waranty though will it?

No, but after 10 years it becomes economically viable to service it yourself.

New sports bike retain more value with a FSH than it costs to service them, old ones cost considerably more to service than the FSH adds to the value.

It would make sense to do your servicing yourself by this point.
