hi
my dream has always been to design and build motorcycles, i cant seem to enjoy working in a shop or office and get
bored very quick. iv got allot of review from people from around the world saying they really like my bikes.
i have contacted motorcycle manufactures regarding employment but no luck.
how would i turn this passion into a business? what do you think of my designs?
if i had a chance to build motorcycles i design they will all be hi-tech, electric motorcycles for the future.
i have done some research and there is a big market for electric bikes.
any advice would be appreciated
thank you
kennt

There probably isn't a market for those bikes.... all look like they can't handle a corner Laughing

It would be a hard business to start and run...as for jobs, do you have the relevant design degrees or anything?

Try making something less futuristic...

No offense, but you're an artist, not a motorcycle designer. A motorcycle designer can take into account function as well as form. None of those bikes would work. They'd all be very heavy, impractical and slow.

Artists just make pretty pictures.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

+1

If I can't filter on a bike, I'd buy a car. I definitely couldn't filter on those.

I like to go fast and have fun doing so, I don't think they could be quick and nimble as such.

I'm not one for looks, but I'd prefer to ride something that looks "this world" Thumbs Up

if your gonna design stuff like that, go to the states, all the roads are strait, there is a reason why such a small amount of harley are seen over here by comparison to other machines.

They've got me thinking Batmobile Cool
I like the designs, but more as artwork, I wouldn't/couldn't ride one of those really; it's just too impractical.

If you want to start designing motorbikes and get them accepted by a manufacturer then you need to think about practicality and costs.

One of the first things that you need to do is to think about what people want out of a motorcycle. For me that would be:
Arrow easy to handle (for filtering)
Arrow fast enough for the motorway
Arrow reliable
Arrow cheap to run

If you're going into electric bikes then that would say to me that you're going to be designing commuter bikes. Then you have to design a bike which fits those needs, rather than just what looks cool.

Those are pictures, not designs.
You want to design motorcycles; you need a degree in engineering. If you want to specialise in aesthetic design, 'product' engineering is probably your best bet. It contains a lot more art, and a lot less 'real' engineering. Automotive engineering, is offered by two or three universities in this country; the courses contain 'some' styling & modeling modules, and less structural and technical work. We (H300 Mechies, pure mechanical engineers) used to laugh at them playing with plasticine in the labs when we went off to run Dynometers or make engines with a lathe; because we knew that 90% of what they styled was unmakable. We also knew that out of thirty of them on a course, only two would get to work for a car company, and unlikely they would ever get to style a whole car!
In twenty years, only ONE has; for Morgan.
BUT, you may dream.

Turn the designs into 3d models using solidworks. Apply realistic forces, calculate weights and material volumes and costs etc and tweek them till they're viable. Then reapply for those jobs explaining what you've done and you'll get one.
