Hi all,

I am looking to get myself a new helmet for Christmas, as my LID Havoc isn't really up to the job. The helmet with be used primarily for road riding, but also for the odd track day (though not vital).

I have test fitted a good number of helmets and have a good idea of which helmet makes fit well and the corresponding sizes.

Here are the options;

Nolan X-Lite X-802 @ £150

Shark RS2 Indy

Any recommendations?

The helmet I have is a Red Zed from 2wheeljunkie.
It fits me absolutely perfectly, best fitting and most comfortable lid I have ever had.

It has a gold ACU sticker on the back (think its ACU) either way its certified for tracks, black visors are £10 or £15, ideal lids. Have 2 of them.

I don't think I'd go X-Lite again. I had an X602 and the quality was pathetic.

Liner was good and wind noise was low, but apart from that pretty poor.

Pin lock visor rubs on rubber seal around visor and you end up scratching the visor to buggery.
Paint flakes off helmet pretty easily.
Wind buffeting was terrible, when I changed helmet I couldn't believe how bad the x-lite had been at buffeting.

Average helmet, but too pricey for the quality.

What Paddy and Seb said +1.

I'd rather have a cheap one that fits better than an expensive one that doesnt fit right.

And the cheapest of the lot, and the one with the gold sticker on the back.

It might be worth remembering that if you drop your helmet whether it cost £40 or £400, you will still need to replace it. Thumbs Up

You're probably best going for something over £60. A fibreglass type one will be lighter and stronger and in the £100 region. You can get carbon fibre ones which are lighter still, but it's probably not worth the extra cost unless you've got money to burn. If you can, aim for a decent helmet ~£100, but don't over spend Thumbs Up

not the HJC

and FFS the gold ACU sticker means FUCK ALL safety wise

helmet manufacturers can buy the gold sticker for £2 from the ACU which puts money into the sport, if they put them on a helmet it doesn't mean they're any safer!!

Agreed!

But they have to have someone to stick it one from the manufacturer...!

Only means you can take it on a track day, nothing else!

As everyone says, go with something that fits well.

I like HJC's. They fit me and are comfy. I have 3 including the carbon one.

I also have a shark RSI Fireshark which cost more than all of my HJC helmets, looks the dogs danglies, is increadibly comfy, fits superbly.......... untill I ride fast on a naked bike, when it pushes back onto my nose Embarassed

So it's what fits you best. People say you have either an Arai or Shoei shaped head, but you wont fit both. I must have an HJC shaped head (or just a big nose!)

The ACU sticker SHOULD be a sign it meets certain standards.
But of course like with many systems, there's some corruption in there.

As people have suggested - I would go for fit first, then consider other options if there's a few with similar fit.

If you really care about protecting your head while road riding, I'd look into making sure you don't crash, which will be much more effective Thumbs Up.
