design help please :)

hi all.iv made a new rear fairing for my rs 125 but im stuck for ideas with brake lights and indicators..so im gonna be cheeky and ask you lot for inspiration.iv found this on flee-bay but im just not sure weather to go with this or 2 round brake lights with a round indicator either side.all the same size of course..let me know you thoughts.good or bad.i think im gonna go all white.and ill add a pic of the fairing its got to go on..(when its finished but you get the idea of what shape its gonna be)cheers all

im sorry mate but if i were you ide look at the thing youve made shrug my shoulders say to my self hey i tryed and put it in the bin!

dont get me wrong its great youve had ago but dont settle for the it;ll do, throw it away redisign the shape n try again

if after a couple of attempts you still cant do anything with it bin it n have a rethink , but that is not good sorry

As for the tail light, I'll leave that decision for you, you seem to have done a good job so far. I do have a couple questions about your design though. To make that shape, did you form a new panel from fibreglass using a mould, or did you take an existing panel, slice the back off with a hacksaw, then fibreglass over the hole? And secondly, is that sellotape I can see through the fibreglass?

I reckon you could have the "shotgun" rear lights like the R6 (think its the R6 anyway) but first you would need to scrap that lump of gash on the back.

Why not a short rounded piece like most bikes?

i asked for good and bad so i got what i asked for lol.there is no sellotape but i ran short on hardner which changes the colour dramatically .also i made a mould out of polystyrene then covered it with foil as a kind of release agent(which worked a charm).the reason it is that shape is because i wanted to follow the curves of the side fairings and i wanted it tight up against the under pan.its far from finished yet but i do see some of yours point.i looked about at different kinds but i wanted it too look different but also half decent.that is just the base model.i might add bits here and there so dont judge just yet .but at least i have tried.iv only had a quick look but iv yet to find someone who has tried something like this on bcf and if people who are skint like me don't try stuff like this then we might as well never bother and just stare at flee bay and dream. there will be plenty of pics when its finished and im still hopeful it will look decent.but if i doesnt ill roll out the rug in front of my computer and bow down to all of you ..

ps.i tried corn beef and ham but smelt the shed out a little

While it's not to my taste, have you considered making a shape from card board, be alot easier and even/precise over trying to shape polystrene 100% spot on. Then as you did, foil it and fibre glass it.

Can atleast muck about with different styles & shapes.

Wish I'd of kept my RS now, I'm looking for a rolling chassis as something to work on whilst I use my current XR for work commute until it warms up abit. Despite it's problems the RS was/is fun to ride.

Have an 06 Tank & Rear Subframe lying about, so might get blue petering something to the rear sub frame. Also got an 06 front faring, but that's in quite a bad shape, only paid £10 for it with a perfect windscreen, but the fairing itself is missing big bits from either side of the windscreen, so it might take quite some work to create those missing bits, so unsure if it's worth it. And headlamps to go with it arn't cheap, so might go street fightered look if I go ahead with it. Seems the popular choice from friends input.

Have to see. Need a rolling chassis first.

sounds good mate.well i have got the front fairing for sale.not the best of nick needs a little tlc but the headlights are spot on.there is a few rolling chassis on ebay at the mo.im looking for another project for when this one is finished but i think i might go with another rs but get a bigger engine in it.i tried cardboard but to be honest is was alot harder then the polystyrene.and i think apart from the engine they do make a good looking streetfighter. but thats imo

I could design you a number of rear ends with lights and shiz but i need some input as to what your aiming for in terms of your design, currently studying design so would be pretty easy for me to draw something up for shits and gigs so long as your not expecting epic details and all that? PM me.

Aye, I've found one, he's asked for an offer with or without engine (engine big end? bearings have gone) so I've no idea what to offer, the front wheel is different from the rear (different amount of spokes) but all in all, it's a full bike, pictured without fairings, not mithered if it doesn't come with them though.

Just don't know what to offer. He's local aswell, and the only one local I can find on the net, so I don't want to miss my chance, nor do I want to pay too much. Getting it with the engine will probably be worth it, as it might prove difficult/expensive to find one later on.

And rebuilding the engine with it will be a nice learning curve & I'm really interested in doing it. I couldn't really do much with my last RS as I used it for work, so I couldn't dismantle it really.

Can't find it on youtube atm, but there was a new shape RS repainted in high vis orange & yellow and looked really smart. Hence why I have the subframe and tank/front fairing, was going to convert it.

I was thinking of a 4 stoke engine it in, might be abit daft, or not work at all, but reliabilty and the fun/style of the RS in one. At a fraction of a cost of the plastic fantastic YZF 125

well i would snap it up but thats just me.the engine rebuild itself is where im at.and i know a fair bit about bike but nothing when it comes to actually rebuilding the engine.but im doing it myself so i can learn.but for the engine rebuild im replacing quiet alot as i want to know its done properly and iv put a side 400 so its not cheap.but the change the engine is hard because the chain is on the opposite side to most bikes.and iv yet to find someone who has done it on a forum so i can copy but im sure there are plenty of people on here who know alot more then me.but as for price wise i paid 550 for mine,its on a y plate,needed a new back tyre for mot and the speedo didnt work but other then that it was a sound bike apart from a few scruffs on the fairings.i would offer 300 without engine or 400-450 with and see where you go from there.thats a fair price and the worst he can say is no.but i would be willing to pay probably around the 500 mark but thats just because its local and if you find one for 150 cheaper else where,unless you have a van or know someone with a van, it could end up costing that to get it home.but thats just me.make sure you let me know if you do get it tho.ill try and give you some tips on what i know and you with me

well i find that because most young lads love rs's people want alot for them.i emailed a few people on ebay a few months back,the bike's were running but they were really really tatty,loads of electrics not working and loads of damage.but because the engine ran they all wanted 950+.if you get it for 180 i will go and sit in me shed and cry cause iv been looking for the last week and cant find anything under 500!!!!
