So will they now replace the god-awful red tarmac with something that is actually safe to ride on? Evil or Very Mad

Round my way the middle of the lane is pushed up like the bloody Himalayas and the bus wheel tracks are like rough-bedded streams. In consequence I only use bus lanes when I have to. Crying or Very sad

This is cool....

I was worried that when this first come out that car drivers would be pulling left looking for big Red Buses and not motorbikes...

I wish that all the bus lanes where the same and not half of them.... Have to check every time....

I don't want to hear the word Boris again... or is it Doris??

We have had the use of bus lanes in Bristol for quite a while.

The thing to watch out for is taxis, who seem to ignore the entry and exit to the lanes (hint to culprits: the dotted lines are the entry/exit points, the solid white lines are not to be crossed) and jump in from traffic whenever it suits, generally not bothering to look.

As long as the biker keeps this in mind when using them, and not expecting them to be a complete safe haven, they work well.

Good news that - and a sensible decision even if it was kinda insevitable. Using the bus lanes has made a huge difference to the safety of motorcycling in London. It should be spread country-wide.

London clearly needs massive reforms, not just in transport, but also in housing and in getting rid of ghettos, as it's all part of the same problem.

Traffic in Bristol isn't that bad though.

TBF, he was directing his comments to the bike "tax" freetards. I'd have been happy for Boris to just hire a crusher, set it up in the middle of Trafalgar Square and drop the freetards' bikes into it. Problem solved at a stroke. Thumbs Up

I just got fined for a bus lane contravention in the North East, I pointed out the trials going on in London and Birmingham, it really sickens me to get fined for this when these trials are going ahead, and now it confounds the situation that they've been made permament.

I made a thorough contest to the fine in writing, and the police basically responded to say that we've taken on board all of the evidence and information you have provided, and they just said we're going to go ahead and fine you regardless. Not only that but even more insulting is that they wrote the officer concerned request the fine be persued. Police personal bias if you ask me, as I accused him of having parked illegally. I feel like taking it to court but it's just not worth the risk. The principal of the matter really makes me angry.

I reviewed the council briefing notes in 2003, the councillors and police were so narrow-minded that motorcycles never even received consideration when they were planning who should be allowed to use bus lanes.

No you didn't, unless the justice system just got turned arse-over-tip while I was kipping.

If it's being prosecuted by the CPS then I'd recommend that you go to court, if the CPS prosecutor and the copper both turn up then you can always plead guilty on the day. You'll be keeping him off the streets for a few hours, which is pretty civic minded of you.

Some of the comments on that page regarding cyclists needing to attend training etc are abit OTT if you ask me.

If you're gonna ride a push-bike on the road, then sure, some knowledge about the highway-code and general road safety is a must.
But then why take away the freedom of a bicycle?
The fact that you can go to Halfrauds, get a POS Faux-suspension bike made of monkey metal (I'm an avid mountain biker... Halfords bikes can suck my balls) for £50 and then ride it where the fuck you want, is brilliant. If you suddenly instigate rules to stop people from having that freedom then it's just making the world more and more ridiculous to live in.
Does this mean that for me to ride my bike in the local woods, i would have to push it? Put it on/in the car? It's just stupid really.
Next people will be saying there should be a CBT for pedestrians, and we need annual shoe insurance. Where do you stop?
As for the bus-lanes (To keep this post on topic)...
I dont live in London. Dont care. hahahah
I joke. My dad told me his commute is cut by 5-10mins each way thanks to the trial. He'll be pleased that it's now in full-effect.

Edinburgh sticks out as the sore arse in the mixture.
I think the council's last words on motorbikes in the city's bus lanes was, 'No-way not ever, ever, ever'.
I think it is typical of the idiots who govern the Scottish capital.

What happens elsewhere for the good of all means nothing to those belligerent twats.

(Just a humble dyed in the wool West Coaster's viewpoint.)

Cyclists are not the issue in London, despite what some dipshit from the shires says on this thread.
The licensed taxis that can't use the bus lane are lethal (Addison Lee, are you listening?)Their driving is pisspoor along with some of the bus drivers who grace the capital's streets. They are a danger to anyone on two wheels.
The over-riding problem in London is that silly cunt Boris Johnson who does not have a clue what his transport policy will be other than 'keeping traffic flowing'. This may sound great to some but it has reduced the quality of life for everyone. Letting every fucker in the bus lanes won't change that.

Driving in any big city is not a fun thing.
It is fraught with the dangers associated with non-Citizens in visa-visit-rentals and a general 'No Fucker Gives a Fuck for any other Fucker.' mind set.

Bus drivers are cunts.
Taxi drivers are arseholes.
And those who 'steer' vans around town for a living are just mental.

But it don't stop me jostling with the mob.

Good(ish) news, I will admit ... but it won't stop the twats who insist on using the bicycle lane, pretending they don't know its illegal/dangerous (and for pussies) Laughing

Forgot to add this one to the list of anoyingisms:

Those King Edwards who 'honestly' think the Big Green Boxes at traffic lights is so motorbikes get a boost away in front of the other traffic.
Shocked

Oh come on, who would do that eh...?

Laughing

It did make my journey to Westminster a lot easier albit a little bumpy and riddled with drain covers.

I have the use of plenty of bus lanes on my journey now and it does make a huge difference, just need some of the non bike ones to be changed and I'll be even happier with this news.

If the cycle lane has dashed lines then it's only advisory not to ride/drive in it, if it has a solid white line then it's mandatory to stay out of it. They use the dashed versions when the roads are too narrow to safely section part of it off, or for junctions.
But yes, cycle lanes are definitely for pussies.
